Anyone doing well?

Seems like all I have been seeing for post lately are people saying how bad they are doing.... Anyone doing well and want to share hahaha so many negative Nancy's out there!

I love nursing school, am doing great and can hardly wait to keep learning!

I've passed the clinical and skills to this date and I am 2.5 points away from an A for my entire first semester. I'm very proud of this because I have worked harder on this grade than any previous ones. Keep it up everyone.

No one said it did. They are just respinding to the question that was presented. Besides who wants to be cared for by a nurse who barely passed.. idc how nice she is if she don't know whT she is doing. ..
spoken like someone who has not gone to nursing school.. are you a current nurse or a student doing prereqs? I graduated with a 3.79 had straight A's going into the program but the program is hard and what was once a B is now a C the scores are different. A nurse who "barely passed" isn't a bad nurse! you get a test with 50 odd ball questions from 10 chapters which contains information that could be 1000s of questions knowing which 50 will be asked on the test can be impossible. not too mention that 3 of the 4 answers are good answers but only one is the best answer. Anything less than a 78% is failing in most programs so a nurse who "barely passed" is a high C nurse. NOW I made it through the program stressing grades and made mostly As with the exception of 2 Bs and 1 C in OB and I graduated with honors, but I sacrificed so much of life being focused on an A that no one asked me about in interviews. They only care you pass the NCLEX. They don't care what your GPA was. that being said any nurse who gets through the program is a GOOD nurse and a safe nurse ( once they pass the NCLEX).. if you don't know your stuff you won't "barely pass' you will FAIL. I have friends who got Cs and are amazing nurses because they know their stuff it just didn't always reflect it in the 50 questions they were asked on the exams. When you get into a program let us know how you feel about nurses who "barely pass" odds are you might be one of them!

As a nurse of 30 years I am disheartened by this thread. You are all thrilled that you are making As and Bs but I haven't read one word about your patient care or your clinical skills. Book smarts do not always translate to being a good nurse.

If I've got an A in this course, it's a given that I'm also passing skills & clinicals. We don't get a letter grade in those components. It is simply pass/fail. I take pride in my work and I strive hard to achieve the grade I have. I'm not in this simply for an A. I take this very seriously. This will be my career and I want to master the material.

I think you missed the spirit of this thread or at least its intention. There are so many "I'm struggling" posts. It's refreshing to know there are those of us who are working hard and earning good grades. If you only read negative posts, it makes you feel as if it's an impossible feat to attain good grades.

Our program requires a 76% or higher in each component: lecture exams, skills lab, physical assessment, med math, med terminology, cultural interview, elderly interview and clinicals. If you have less than 76% in one component, you fail the entire course.

So, to be nearly done and still have an A is something I'm proud of. We don't get to take an average of each component. Each one stands on its own merit.

The toughest part of the course has been the lecture exams. Clinicals & skills, while challenging, haven't been nearly as nerve wracking as trying to answer NCLEX style questions for the first time. I'd rather perform injections or insert a catheter than take another exam :)

I understand where u r coming from even my one C was an 84% I hurt like hell. I think she just means don't get hung up on the letter grade . A pass is a pass and mastering the material isn't what it's all about. You can't possible know everything. It's more important to know what u don't know and be willing to ask ?s when u come across it in the field. When I was employed I was told a nurse who tells me she knows everything is a danger to my floor when I said " well I don't know everything and still feel I have a lot to learn" in my interview. Yes u can make an A and good for u but don't let it define u as a nurse. Like the other poster who said she didn't want a nurse who barely passed that nurse might be the best IV stick in the house ! Or could save a live just as easily as an A student. Good luck and enjoy the journey it will be over before u know it and u will finally be able To breathe again :)

Probably because that our biggest obstacle is book work.

Further proof that, no matter what you do or say, someone's going to dislike it. Sheesh.

I never said getting an A means I know everything. Nor would I ever presume to act like I know it all when I'm out in the field. I'll be a rookie with a lot to learn about real world nursing vs. nursing school nursing.

I have in no way insinuated I would ever act like this. Nor do I think that other students who are getting Bs or Cs are somehow not as good. Nursing school is very difficult and anyone who passes can be proud of it. It's just upsetting when others try to negate someone feeling proud of accomplishing an A in an extremely tough course. I set a goal and I'm working hard to achieve it. I plan to go on after finishing my BSN and the grades I earn now are very important to my future.

Thanks for the words of encouragement :)

You're serious with this post? Maybe reread what the OP wrote and try again. You can also check out the hundred other threads specific to clinical and bedside skills, because this isn't one.

just for the record I didn't say you did say you knew everything. Just that you said you felt the need to "master the material" that can be taken in several different ways. Good luck to you and yes your GPA will be important to you if you are looking to further your education for example I hear CRNA school can be quite competitive as well.

you obviously haven't looked hard enough... you can't just skim over posts and decide we're all bags of poo

First that comment was in response to another specific comment that you have taken time to take out of context so have several seats! Second I disagree that every nurse who finish the program amd passes the nclex is a good nurse because I have experienced several nurses who suck at their job!

There are so few times in nursing we pat ourselves on the back. Grades are a necessary evil when you are in school. I appreciate students who study hard and try to do their best regardless of their grades. Some people just don't test well.

I think students should celebrate their successes!!!!!

kudos for everyone doing well!!!

I think we need to be respectful of each other and polite in our responses!
