Anybody take the Hesi exam? I need to get a good study guide, not a crappy one

by Chanta2 Premium Member

Has any one taken the Hesi exam? I have decided to enroll in one of the newer nursing schools. This school is offering the Rn program. This class that I am thinking about attending will be the second class to go forward with the rn program. I am a LPN. I am ready to start classes. I am looking for some info on where I can purchase a Hesi book that will give me a score to pass the entrance exam. I have been out of nursing school going on 12 years now.
any advise will help.

Heh, I haven't even posted here for months but I just came on the board here to ask the exact same question. I've been an LPN for 2 years now and have applied to an RN program. I have been accepted on condition of passing the HESI LPN exit exam. I've never taken the HESI before because the school was structured differently when I attended and it wasn't required. It's supposed to be like the NCLEX, but I'm nervous.

I'm actually not interested in buying a book since I have a shelf full of nursing textbooks I saved from last time I was in school. I just have no idea where to start studying for this. Sorry I can't help you, I'm looking for the same answer.

Thank you Nurse Jackie.

I am still researching. I am scheduled for the Hesi exam July 11.

Pardon me, Kythe, not Nurse Jackie.

Kythe,

I just was googling, and I ran across a website, All nursing Hesi test questions answered (study guide and review) http://hesistudyguide.word.press.com

It looks like just the kind of information we need. Let me know if you find the site.
I'm going to print it, and get busy!

Well, I took the test today and didn't pass. Fortunately, this school allows the test to be taken twice, so I can go back in about a month and try again. The nursing program director said I did pretty well for someone who had been out of school for a while and didn't study, but she did recommend this official study guide:

http://www.amazon.com/Testing-Remedi...4177395&sr=8-1

This is the RN study guide, not the PN. To look at it one way, the PN study guide is only useful to us for this test. Why pay for it when we will be needing an RN book soon to get through school, since the HESI is now a standardized test that is used for graduation.

It also says NCLEX, with HESI only being at the top. I'm not sure why, but even browsing online there don't seem to be independent HESI tests. I think they are all related. I'm going to go ahead and buy this book and study from it. I doubt the tests would be too different, it should still be worthwhile.

Just an update... I took the HESI my second time, and the final time allowed by this school for re-entrance. I passed with a score of 1021, well above the 850 required for entrance into the program. I'm so excited and relieved, this is so much higher than the first time I took the test. I was very surprised by this result.

It's not like I've gone back to school for refresher courses during the last month, but effective review has gone a long way toward getting my mind back into "school" mode. I read just about every one of the grey "HESI" boxes in the review book I linked to earlier, as well as reading more detail on certain subjects I thought might be emphasized. I also reviewed several chapters in my old NCLEX-PN study guide.

It paid off, and now I've been accepted into an LPN-RN bridge for this coming school year! Chanta, it looks like your test date isn't far off now...

That is an awesome score! I wish you all the best in your studies as you pursue your RN degree. You are so ahead of yourself. You will do well.

Yes July 11, is right around the corner! Thanks for the pointers!

Hey, it's funny that you mentioned the hesi study guide because that is what was just told to get a few days ago. I was told to go to barnes & noble and get it. I am also an LPN looking into becoming an RN. It costs about 30 dollars I think. So go and get it and make sure you "kick butt" on that exam.
