I just turned 28 in November & will be starting college in the Fall of 2013 to get my BSN. I've just not had the time or money to be able to pursue my career until now. I realize that having been out of school for 10 years getting in the swing of things will be somewhat difficult, but I'm hoping that my level of maturity will really help my resolve & drive. Is anyone else in my same boat or been in it? And advice?

I'm soon to be 41 and am just finishing up my pre requisites in winter quarter and then will be applying to the local RN programs in my area. I see lots of younger students that are not serous about their education.(Just as I was as a young girl.)

Same here, my mindset wasn't the same when I was younger. I went to college but did not take it seriously. I decided I'd rather work. Did fine until I was laid off then nothing to fall back on. This is why at 38 I am in school again and it's much different this time. I have responsibilities now and the reason I'm doing this seems so much more real to me than it did when I was 18-20s.

I'm 38, with 3 teens, and just started school this fall. I have never been happier than right now, and am living the dream! Even while exhausted, my house a mess, no $$$ to do anything, and school work piled up on my bed I am so happy and feel so blessed to finally be pursuing my dream!

Just completed my 16 month accel BSN this past August. I was a complete screwup the first time through college 10+ years ago. Just needed to get my foot in the door to explain my grades and lack of maturity then. Graduated nursing school with a 3.8. You can do it! Be positive, and rely on your classmates and support system when things get tough. My class of 24 consisted of people from all paths to nursing. Ages 22-54. I'm 32.

Good luck.

I was exactly the same way. I worked full time through college, and liked to party then. Was happy with B's and C's. In nursing school, my focus and what I expected out of myself was much higher.

Kinda in your shoes (read your other posts about concerns with family time). I hope to start the nursing program at 28 years old Fall 2013. I've been married for a year now and will hopefully finish the nursing program when I'm 30. Then I want to work as a nurse for at least a year (to get maternity leave) before starting a family....so that puts me with a baby at about 31-32 and then maybe another at 34-35.

Guess I'm different from most wives because I never wanted kids in my 20s. I think we are doing ourselves a favor by having kids in early/mid 30s: more stability, more experience being married, more maturity, etc.
