I'm just wondering how that works for nursing. If you live in a state that offers philosophical exemptions, can you claim an exemption, or do you not qualify, since you're in a healthcare field?

This is not meant to start a debate about vaccines, nor am I going to engage in one, I simply want feedback from others who are philosophically opposed to vaccines.

I was able to sign a Hep B waiver for school but I don't think I will be able to for work.

No waivers at our school, can't start clinicals without it and wouldn't want to anyway.

Are you totally sure about that? It would seem odd that in a public school, if exemption is legally protected by state law, that it wouldn't apply to the nursing program, as well.

klone,

Respectfully, what are your objections to vaccines?

With all due respect, I'm really hesitant to get into a discussion or debate about my vaccination choices, especially at a medical website. That's kind of why I prefaced my post the way I did, as I know from previous history that these types of discussions are very draining on time and energy, and are usually quite circular. :) Maybe when I'm done with my summer session class, I'll have more time/energy to explain the non-vax philosophies. As for right now, I was just hoping someone who knows what I'm talking about can provide some concrete information on the issue.

Check out http://www.thinktwice.com. They seem to have a lot of information regarding specific state laws on this sort of thing. From the quick read I did of the site, it seems that most states have laws which allow people to receive waivers for required vaccines. It looks like it can differ greatly from state to state. You should probably just research your own state laws or the laws in the state where you plan on working.

Thank you, that site was very helpful, and even addressed the exact question I had.

klone....my school is private. I would also like to check out that website out of curiosity to see what the particular laws are in my state.

Some orthodox religions that forbid genetically altered foods/meds, generally allow exemptions for cases of necessity. And safety as a nurse would permit vaccines.

We can sign a waiver at my school as well.

I choose to selectivly vaccinate my kids as well- and certainly NOT for religious purposes. There is a lot of info out there online about vaccinations for those who want to know.
