Alternate Lists?

Ok, so I just got my acceptance letter from the local community college that I applied to for their ADN program. Well, I guess I wasn't really accepted, but I have been placed on their alternate list. I called the school to see if they could tell me what number alternate I was and the lady said she couldn't tell me, and gave me a long explanation about why, blah, blah, blah. I couldn't even tell you what she said now. So then I got smart and asked how many people were placed on the alternate list, and she said only ten people are placed on the list. So I'm just wondering has anyone gotten into NS as an alternate? I'm just curious as to what my chances are here, I already know of one guy who is rejecting his acceptance letter to go to med school. I hate to get my hopes up, and then be crushed, but I think I've already lost that battle.

hi there!

well last year i too was chosen for the cc adn program...(as an alternate)...they openly told me that i was #7.

so from what i understand, there had to be at least 7 accepted students, who for whatever reason, did not follow thu...and at that time i would be called. :uhoh3:....needless to say that never happened... oh and i was also told that out of 300+ students applying, that it was an "honor" to even make it as an alternate.....so on that note, i will say ~~~congrats~~~

please keep us posted, hopefully you are in the beginning of the list and will get called!!:balloons:

best wishes..

I'm sure it depends by program but I just had my orientation (I start in the Spring) and there were 14 alternates there. I have no idea why they chose so many. They kept telling us that if for any reason we decided to defer (my school also allows people to defer 2 semesters) to let them know ASAP so that the alternates could get their paperwork completed. We were told one person dropped the program a month into this semster and they called an alternate. Although I couldn't imagine having to catch up an entire month's worth of work.

I'm guessing that they expect people to defer right before school starts or they might have people that don't submit the required package in time or don't pass the drug/background tests.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you :nuke:

My school allows people to defer up to a semester as well. I'm hoping that a few people will do that! I have until November 30th to get all of my paperwork in, the alternates are expected to do everything as if they will be starting in Jan. so that if someone does drop or defer our stuff is ready to go. The waiting is the hard part!!! I was told if I do get in, I more than likely won't know it until the day before school starts, but thats ok, I'll take it! I was really crushed at first, but I enrolled in Chem, nutrition, and statistics for the spring, because those are the only classes I lack to get into the schools around here that offer BSN degrees and I'll be applying to them in Jan. I'm not giving up hope though!! Ok, now Im just rambling so I'll stop now, Good luck everyone!
