All white uniforms? Eek...help!!

Good news...I got into nursing school! Bad news...they have all white uniforms. Forgive me for asking, but what are your tips for not looking ridiculous, not showing undergarments, and, uh...not sharing too much at certain times of the month, ladies? Thank you!! :imbar

Ours are supposed to be all white too. Do they do this for a reason? Other than to be annoying?

After reading your posts I'm feeling very fortunate right now. I am starting school Monday and I'm worried about clinicals and can I do this, etc. Reading your posts makes my doubts seem trivial. My school requirements are to wear Navy and press it, tie back hair, and polish my white shoes nightly. I'm feeling very lucky.

At least your school reminds you to press your scrubs. I think some students forget to look in the mirror before they walk out the door to clinical.

No polishing shoes...that is so cute and old school. Sounds like my old Scottish aunt is on their advisory board.

I have to wonder who picked out these white uniforms. Makes me think maybe it was a man! :p

Not necessarily. Our tech college just changed theirs and I have a friend working there. Apparently it was like the "great debate". One of our private college uses all white and I think it looks very smart...plus it make student easily identifiable.

Well, I was just kidding but it is kind of rough to make students wear thin white pants. For a multitude of reasons. There's got to be a better way! I guess it would be too impractical to have special scrub tops printed with "STUDENT" in large letters. Maybe make students wear orange scrubs like prisoners! :jester: Hmm, I guess that wouldn't go over too well.

I haven't started yet and haven't been to orientation yet so not sure what color I'll end up with. I've seen pictures of previous graduating classes and for years (since the 1970s) they all wore white dresses (ugh) and the few men white tops and pants. Then the last couple of years looks like it's been dark blue scrubs for everybody with white lab type jackets.

I think lots of schools use the "all white" uniform for students because it is a very basic color that most hospitals/institutions will not have their staff wearing...so its easier to identify who is a student lol

I am having to wear white scrubs for my clinicals also and have been told NO THONGS---not even white or nude colored ones. Because even if you bend over, people still may see this and think of it as sort of embarassing or too flashy (I can't think of the right word) So what I am going to do is wear my flesh toned regular underwear and my white bra with an undershirt...hopefully all is well!! :D

oh, by the way... Navy scrubs would be woooonderful to wear!

Ugh! I wish we had all white. It'd be better than navy skirts/pants and puke green 'shirts' that are more like plastic jackets. They have bright purple on the sleeves. It's gross as.

I do feel better!

We too are told NO THONGS-

What are they going to do? Daily pantie inspections?

If your tops are long enough, who would know?

I have some experience with the white scrubs thing. What I did was went and bought white spandex shorts to wear under my pants. I also bought white tank tops to wear under my tops. I always wear loose fitting scrubs for comfort. Due to my experiance working in the ER this attire underneath comes in handy if for instance you are vomited upon or have other miscallaneous things get on your clothes incase you have to change in a hurry. As for that time of the month I wear a tampon and a pad just in case.

Specializes in none as of yet..

It could be worse! There is a nursing class in our area that have to wear mechanic type jump suits with big collars....sexy......LOL. I would take the white scrubs ANY DAY over the other option.
