ADN students, how much do you study?

outside of class and clinical, on average, how many hours per day or week do you study? do you find you have time for family? do you have days where you don't have to study or do you feel like you are always studying?

if i'm going into nursing school without having to work at all, can my kids expect me to be "around"?

do you read everything assigned or just skim or go off powerpoints?

you hear quite often that ns is difficult or challenging, but there is very little information out here on how much study time people put in. i know it is different for everyone but i just want to get a general idea.

I didn't study a lot... Maybe an hour or two every other day if we had a quiz, more if there was an exam. I definitely didn't study as much as most in my class but I haven't had any issues. It all depends on you!

There must be a big difference in the ADN vs. the entry level master's degree program because I study 3-5 hours on weeknights and 8 hours on both Saturday and Sunday. There would be no other way to keep up without putting this time in.

ALL THE TIME... I come to AN when I need a break!

This is a very individual thing. I barely studied or opened my text books. I am just not very focused. I tried many times and it didn't work for me. I did go to just about every lecture. I can count on one hand how many I probably missed in 2 years. I did well. I was a B average students. I got a couple A's and a couple C's. Outside of one C my C's were in the 84% range and a only missed the B (85% by a couple points). I spent lots of times with my kids, with my friends, reading books for fun and watching my 100 million shows I am hooked on and movies too. Spent way to much time on Facebook and Allnurses.

So I wasn't the smartest in the class but I still did good without giving up my free time. I was the first one to take boards in my class and did it within days and passed in 75 questions. I spent a few hours doing review questions for NCLEX and that was probably the most I put into studying in a single time frame all of nursing school.

So it can be done but it depends on you. It depends on what works for you. It's going to differ for everyone.

i probablystudy about 20 hours a week for school(except finals time, I studied 16 hrs in 3 days this quarter). I have VERY little time between school, clinical, studying and work to spendmuch time at all with my 2 year old. I would say that no, your kids cant expect for you to be around much. I only work 6 hours a week ad its a struggle to balance...i just tell myself/family/child its only for a short time nad Ill be back. NS really does take alot of sacrifice. Good lUck.

It's my second week in program so I really don't know what to expect on my first exam. I study about +/- 44hr per week. And yes, I work 24hr per week and go to the gym for an hour every/every other day:) But... I don't have a kids so that makes my life much easier!

I'm the OP and am now 2 months into my ADN program so I thought I'd post how much studying I do. I have class M-Th 9 to 4. I study 6 or 7 hours on Friday, 3 or 4 hours on Sat and Sun and about 1 hour each week night. Yes, it is a LOT but it's really not as bad as I thought. I love the material and so far I'm making A's. I find that it is much easier to keep up with the material than to try and cram before exams. I read each chapter before lecture and that makes understanding it so much easier. Then I immediately make note cards. I do every NCLEX practice test I can get my hands on. I'm having so much more fun than I ever thought. It helps to be in the program with some great friends!

I have 4 kids (ages 6 - 19) and have been able to keep up with all of their sporting events. The material is not hard per se.....there is just SO much of it. I can't believe how much I've learned in the past 6 weeks!!!
