Hello out there! I am thrilled to announce I can finally stop stalking the "Pre-Nursing Student" threads and begin the "Nursing Student" thread-stalking. I got my acceptance letter for the Spring 2014 start in a BSN program! I was curious to see if anyone else is currently starting or already started their nursing program after quitting a full time-comfy-living-weekends-and-holidays-off desk job?? I am terrified to leave this cubicle prison that has grown to consume my Monday-Friday life for the past three years, but so incredibly anxious and excited for the day I never have to sit in this chair again. This past year of taking night and online prereqs while day dreaming of becoming a kick-butt-super-nurse has finally paid off. Now I just need to sit quietly at my desk and pretend my life is as ordinary as ever until I can give my notice!

In the spirit of Jerry Maguire, "Who's coming with me?"...and what are all your stories? Please share! :)

Congratulations! I feel the same way, but still have a few more days to find out if I have been accepted to the BSN program. I cannot wait until I can hand in my notice (already written it...) and become a full time student again! It scares the bejeezus out of me to quit a mostly 9-5, Monday-Friday, holidays and weekends off kind of job with a good salary to start all over again. But my current job is also soul-sucking and I don't get any satisfaction from working it. I am keeping all of my fingers and toes crossed that I get accepted to the program and can't wait to start my "new life" in January!

I've been in cubicle land 12 years now. I got my acceptance letter in September and just got my required school uniform for clinicals in the mail today. At this point I'm both terrified and excited. I actually have a countdown on my cell phone--only 63 days left until I'm done with cubicle land. Like you I'm keeping quiet until I give my notice. Congrats and good luck to you!

Congrats!!! I'm freakin a little too since I haven't NOT had a job since I was 14 (34 now) and I'll be leaving a job that I have been at for 10+ years in the dental field lol

yes yes & yes. I went from years of a full-time, comfortable with benefits job to working VERY part-time. To quote the dalai lama, "Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it."

I am just in my first semester but I would advise not working full-time! I know people who do it and everyone is different, but I agonized over leaving my full-time job for nursing school. Well, I will tell you it would be completely impossible for me to work full-time and be in NS. There are major time commitments and just time spent everyday getting organized and making sure you have assignments done for lab etc...congratulations to you!

i will be starting in jan 2014 my clinical sequence for my first semester already have taken health assessment, now currently taking med terminology, patho and im so happy i did. It is adjusting how i study for exams and i will say this.. PAY ATTENTION TO COURSE GUIDES. my pathophysiology instructor informed me through email it is the best study method for nursing school. Im glad i listened because not only am i doing better with the select all the apply tests but overall i have B in the class so far:) its hard work

Congratulations! I am not in cubicle prison but I am in teaching prison! I have been teaching for 5 years and I was going to try to keep teaching while going through my program (my program is part-time with classes at night). However, I am not interested in teaching anymore and I really want to get my foot in medical door. So I am looking for medical job which is hard without any experience. But at least I am on my way to being a nurse!

I wish I could hit the "quote button" for every response on this thread, thank you for replying EVERYBODY!!!! :) I love allnurses because it is such a strong supportive community, who are all rooting for each other. I read each and every comment, and it seems like everyone has similar exciting feelings about getting in to/being done with nursing school! I am so proud of each of us, and for coming this far already. We all know it can be an uphill battle at times, but we push through. It is so good to know that others can relate, we are not alone!!!! Keep all the great comments/stories comin'!! :D

Wanted something more promising after all this school. I'm a single mom of two kids and I need to keep going :)

I love the quote of Dalai Lama. Is it possible to work part time a little? I'm so used to being a part of household income with my full time job. My husband doesn't want me working at all but I just am scared not working. An advice would be great!
