Aaah! Starting Nursing School NEXT WEEK!

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Hey Guys! I have lurked for quite a while, and gotten into the discussion a FEW times, but not too many.

I am so nervous! My BLS for Healthcare Providers is Next wednesday (the 17th), and then orientation on BOTH the 18th an 19th.

I am stocking up on my stuff I need for school!

I've got two pairs of my "flared" scrubs (The regular ones they first sold me... looked very weird on me), my nursing student tops (complete with our schools initials (MSON) embroidered in black on the tops (and they were 32 bucks each! Sheesh...), and my dad just bought me my "all white" shoes I needed for clinicals.

I'm ecstatic!!!

My best friend bought me a digital voice recorder for my birthday (he's so great!!), and we just went out and bought my new computer. It is my BABY!!!!!! I got a brand new apple i book...

you can see it at that website, but WOW, those pictures don't even do it justice. I can't wait to break it out to really use it to take notes for class, etc.

I am so nervous and excited all at once! Hopefully, I'm buying my books tomorrow (WHO KNEW THAT ONE SEMESTER WOULD COST $600.00 for BOOKS?!?!), which is bound to make me even more excited.

*When is everyone's "starting" date?(I "officially" start on August 22nd)

*What are your clinical uniforms?(I told about them above... All white except tops are pinstripe)

*Have you subscribed to any magazines to help? (I subscribed to RN and Nursing Made Incredibly Easy

My program is going to be 19 months with the longest break being one week. This is going to be a couple tough years!

Good luck to you. I'm sure you'll do fine. It's normal to be excited and nervous at the same time. Pretty soon, things will settle into a routine. Best wishes.

I start my first day in nursing school one week from today!!!! My stomach is tied in nots.

So far I have spent 633 on my books and still have at least 3 more to buy plus my nurse pack.

The uniforms are horrible. We HAVE to wear a lab jacket with our uniform and they are the heavy kind. Our shirts (if they were pink) could be used for the 1950's type diner uniforms.. They are all white

I am nervous just to be getting started. I know I can do it.. The nerves are from just getting started.

I can't wait !!!!! :uhoh3:

You lucky folks! I'm so jealous.

I won't start officially until January.

Good fortuen to you both!

Congratulations! Good luck with your classes :D

My program is set up in 8 terms/quarters. My official start day was May 31,05' . I should graduate from my ADN program on May 17th 2007. We have several breaks thank goodness !

Our uniforms consist of all white, with a navy blue school smock.

To answer your third question, I subscribe to AJN, Nursing 2005 & LPN 2005. My favorite so far is actually LPN 2005. It's helped me understand some of the things we are going over in class a bit better.

Specializes in Cardiac Care.

My program officially starts on August 29; we have orientation that week. Classes of instruction begin on Labor Day! It's a 33 month course, and I expect to graduate in May, 2008.

My uniform is all-white, pants and jacket; the jacket has a small school patch in the yellow and blue colors high on the shoulder. I don't know what the female uniform is like.

I currently subscribe to three professional journals: Nursing 2005, RN and AJN. I've heard good things about "Made Incredible Easy" (and I like many of the books), but I haven't seen an issue of the magazine, so I haven't subscribed. Each of the magazines I subscribe to has it's good points and not-so-good points. I'm hoping that the SON library has issues of other journals, as well.

Much good luck to us all!

Congratulations to you! My orientation starts on the 23rd. My uniform is a navy blue top and white bottom.

Can anyone send me the link to these subscriptions? Thanks

never mind...i found AJN maybe I'll find a few more. it's amazing what google can do!:chuckle

Hello again! I didn't want to subscribe to these magazines because of the price. Especially nursing made easy because it was listed @ 40 dollars on most subscription websites. Nursing made easy is also bimonthly , and i'd never seen an issue so I didn't want to chance it!

But then I found this website:

http://www.bonusmags.com/nursing_made_incredibly_easy!.html

AND it was only 12 dollars for a year subscription. I haven't recieved it yet, but hopefully will soon. I thought it was a great price, and DEFINITELY worth it. I also got my RN magazine as a special deal online...

It was on year for 19 bucks, through the RNweb.com (where the magazine is from)

Good luck! I can't wait to recieve these mags and I will let you know how they are (I know RN is good, I have been getting it from the library!)

For those that are interested in magazines, lots of times schools get bulk magazines and those are available for students - we get 4 or 5 of them free. For those magazines that the program doesn't get, there are usually those cards floating around somewhere with info on ordering and you can usually get a pretty good rate. Also, if you become a SNA member (part of our tuition) you'll get tons of offers in the mail for magazines that are usually pretty reasonable.

Our library also offers all the nursing magazines and they are available for check out for a week at a time. I usually start there 1st, since those are free.

I start August 22 also (I'm freaking out a bit, too.)

I ordered all of my books online today to the tune of $750, with a few items left that I can only get at the college bookstore for another $250.

Our uniforms are all royal blue scrubs with the school's "Nursing Student" emblem on the top. (One of the things I still have to get at the bookstore.)

I don't subscribe to anything, just spend way too much time here.

I'm so excited for you! Since I decided that I have got to work full-time at present, I won't be able to go to school until next spring (hopefully!) or summer time.

Just take each day as a new learning experience and by the time you get your degree, you'll be amazed at how far you have come.
