A rolling suitcase....really???

Nursing Students General Students

I've seen a few posts recommending a rolling suitcase for use instead of a bookbag, etc. Are we talking carry-on size? What dimentions? I'm starting an ADN program in the fall, but I already have a BA degree and a master's degree in other subjects, so I do not think I will have to be taking a bunch of classes other than anatomy, physiology, etc. aside from my nursing classes/clinicals. I know that my nursing classes require a ton of textbooks, but will I be toting them all to class all the time? I just don't want to buy something that will be too big, but I don't want to underestimate the load I'll be lugging around, either.

Thanks!

I think ImKosher was just stating something that a lot of the students think, but would never say. It's an unfortunate truth. I have to admit, my first semester of college, I thought they looked very dorky. But, now that I have 3 semesters under my belt, I bet the folks with rollers are hurting a lot less than I am. Whatever makes it work for people is what they should do. Since I refuse to take the elevator, I'll still be shoving it all in a regular bag, but I completely understand why others don't.

Oh, I'm sure! I hate rolling backpacks, and I cannot bring myself to buy one...ever. I just get myself a nice massage every month and deal with the shoulder pain from a tote.

I do not, however, mock people who choose to use them. Some people are more about functionality than trendyness. I wear heels to class. Whatev.

You need to be careful with totes, having so much weight baring on one shoulder will hurt you after time. You need to distribute the weight between your shoulders. Look into trying a backpack.

I sincerely apologize to those who felt I was mocking and making fun of you. I was just messing around and I see I have upset some on here. I do know some have conditions, sorry. I still feel the same way about "rolling". I feel they are more cumbersome then practical navigating campuses. Stating that, I am not laughing.

Have you ever tried wearing a backpack with heels? :p

I would not know. Or, ever will. Lol.

Yeah, backpack and heels won't work. I like my heels and will be wearing them on non clinical days on occasion, so I'll be sticking with my tote too.

I accept your apology

I use a rolling bookbag, Its more of a rolling laptop bag but my med-surg book fits (Brunner is a heavy book to carry on your back lol) my drug book, Diagnosis book, My notepad and any other book I may need.

1st semester my first rolling backpack turned out to be too small! I ended up trying to use a suitcase but found that my books shifted around inside too much. I finally found a HUGE rolling backpack at Target that worked perfectly. We were required to bring lots of books to class and I had 3 classes in one day. 2nd semester I was able to go back to a regular backpack because fewer books were required and I was able to get my reference books on my Ipad. This summer all I really need is a tote bag. I'd wait and go to class once or twice before I decided what fits your needs.

I may have to recant my earlier opinion and give in to the rolling bag. I was at school Thursday and threw my back out toting around my books and my backpack. And, I'm not even fully in to the NS program yet. I am just too old for this stuff!

Maybe you need to give up those heels. Lol.
