A quiz to help you choose your nursing specialty...

Recently I posted wondering how everyone chose their "specialty" in nursing, because I have no clue what I want to do yet. Surfing the net I found this site that asks questions that may help narrow things down. I think it's intended for physicians, but it has the same results. Check it out!

Interesting.

Radiation Oncology was the first one.

What I really want to do, emergency medicine, was waaaay down on the list.

Nice. I'm very interested in the OR and my top 3 were:

Thoracic Surgery

Neurological Surgery

Colon and Rectal Surgery

My least compatible match was psych and I totally agree....

Cool quiz!

This is great! What I REALLY want to do was listed as #2 for me: Critical Care. My other 2 top choices were listed as #1 and #7. Looks like I am headed in the right direction.

My least compatable by far was listed as Radiology - Diagnostic. Yup! Makes sense!

ER HERE I COME>>>

Great Website..but im not sure if accurate...got hematology..Lol..i did a placement there..but it wasn't my favorite..too specialized

Specializes in Critical Care; Cardiac; Professional Development.

Mine was not at all accurate. I am headed for oncology. It told me my top choice was pathology, then psychiatry

Specializes in Psych, General OR, CVOR.

Cool, thanks!

Interesting....

1) neurosurgery

2) peds surgery

3) vascular surgery

4) plastic surgery

5) neonatology

6) orthopaedic surgery

7) EM

Guess I'm meant to cut people open for a living... good thing I want to go back to school to become a surgical PA, although I'm more interested in working in EM and trauma surgery.

Specializes in Medsurg/ICU, Mental Health, Home Health.

My number 1 was Gastroenterology. Well, I mean, who doesn't love a big ol' belly surgery with a stern to stem incision, followed by a few weeks of TPN therapy and ostomy teaching? No, I'm the only one?

But I don't think that's what is meant by GI.

On the flipside, my least compatible was Child/Adolescent Psych. Yup, that's about right!

Specializes in Pediatric Pulmonology and Allergy.

My top 3 were ER, family practice and child & adolescent psychiatry. I don't think I have an ER personality but the other 2 are definitely areas I've considered. I'm only surprised that OB was so far down the list.

Specializes in Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Flight.

wow neat quiz..

my results:

1 Preventive Medicine

2 Emergency Medicine

3 Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

4 Family Practice

5 Pediatrics

ER Med is my #1 choice, but i think these results are based on the fact that i like to talk to patients. which i do hahah.

I wonder how many of the "matches" are made because the quiz taker already has an area in mind, and is either subconsciously or consciously thinking about that area while answering questions. The first time I took it, in my minds eye, I was picturing an ER I've done rotations in. Emergency medicine was one of my top choices... the next time I took it, I tried to be unbiased, and EM came up, but further down the line than the first time. But Hematology came up in the top 3 both times. That's a new one.
