A&P I & II During Summer Session?

I need some advice. I am starting a fasttrack RN program in the fall, and want to get some classes out of the way this summer. I am thinking of taking A&P I and II during 1st and 2nd summer sessions, but am worried that it will be to hard. Have any of you done this? I just wonder how they can roll a whole semester into 4 weeks without frying minds. Yet, I know a girl that is in her second year at this school, and she says she wouldn't be able to handle taking the science courses along with the nursing. Do I try the A&P summer course? Or should I try to get Eng,Nutrition, Psyc, and Sociology out of the way this summer? ANY input would be helpful.

Thanks,

Kim:p

I took A&P II during the summer. It was from 8-12, 4 times a week?? It was extemely hard and obviously extremely concentrated. I was working on the weekends and VERY rarely picked-up hours while taking this class. It was very time comsuming. If I had the choice, I would do it again though. I learned a lot and would rather work really hard for a few weeks then take it over months. I got a B+. I agree with your friend that while taking the nursing courses, I would take less intense classes like English and nutrition, etc. I really don't like summer so the nice weather outside didn't bother me but it drove some students crazy. They wanted to go to the beach or party all the time with friends. NONE of that while taking the class. Of course, you have to do what is right for you. GOOD LUCK!

Anytime you have the opportunity to get one of the intensive sciences out of the way over the summer...do it!!!!

A&P is challenging but it can be successfully completed, even during the summer. Don't fall behind. Maybe even pick up another class or two just to balance out A&P. I have found that flip-flopping between studying for studying for multiple courses helps me to retain more.

We did A&P 1 and 2 in the same semester, so i think it would probably work out to be the same ... And its a LOT of info. I agree w/ the Angella about studying for other things if you find you're not retaining as much as you'd like.

Good luck :)

Wow! A&P in 4 weeks!!

I took A&P I in the summer 10 week session. We met twice a week for 4 to 4.5 hours each night. I was also working full time too so I would spend every free night studying and on the weekends too. I did extremely well and would recommend anyone that has the option to give it a try.

I enjoyed taking it in the summer because it felt really good to know that after my 10 weeks I was done and wouldn't have to worry about it ever again. Also, I found the summer class to be very well structured. We would have lecture and lab and study one system in one week, then the following week have the exam and move right along to new material, never looking back.

4 weeks is a short time but if you have the time available to study outside of class and think that you can stick to a strict study schedule you will do well. A&P is one of those classes where you absolutely cannot leave the reading and studying to the night before the exam, you really have to keep up with it.

Also, I think most people find that A&P II is easier than A&PI. I think because in A&PI it takes a little while to get into the "A&P Mindset". Also, in A&PI you have a lot of rogue memorization like when it comes to memorizing all the bones and muscles, which are usually covered in I. You don't have that much memorization when it comes to systems covered in A&P II like Urinary, Reproductive, etc.

If I could have, I would have opted to take A&P II in the summer but it wasn't offered in the second summer session.

Lots of people in my class were taking multiple science classes while taking A&P, plus they were working / taking care of families and they all did pretty well. It was a lot of hard work but if you are willing to give up your free time to study then it can be done and it is definately well worth it to be done with it. I think I'd rather take A&P Iand II in 8 weeks than take it during clinicals.

Plus, 8 weeks is only part of the summer, you will still have some time to enjoy the rest of summer.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

I did both A & P's during the summer and got B's in both, while working about 20 hrs. a week. It can be done, and I also don't regret it. I'm about to complete my first semester in my ADN program, and if I hadn't taken A & P when I did, I would just be getting ready to start the program. Go for it!
