i've got to tell ya ...

i'm 42 and just graduated nursing school. i have had a previous career for over 20 years with other bachelor degrees. i know that if i had started nursing school when i was 18, i would have been doing what your son is doing. you have to want to be a nurse. my trials and tribulations lead me to nursing after all these years and i know this is for me. as an 18 year old i could have gotten the grades, but probably would have not wanted to spend time to really understand what nursing is all about.

he's got to find his path or if pushed a certain way he may go thru with school and end up never practicing....it would all be a waste.
    Hey 2008BSNGRAD,

Wasn't sure that if you caught it or not, but the OP was from 2005.

I don't know if your son is paying any for his school, but dollars to donuts, he would probably have a more diligent attitude if he were.
That said, remember it's HIS life, not yours... okay Mom?
He sounds smart... he just needs to "find his way" as hard as that may be for you.
    Hang in there!

he flunked out of nursing school. Started working at a local small airport in 2005, got hired at lockheed martin in marietta, ga 9/09, and will start engineering school in january with lockheed paying for it. he is happy and i'm happy for him. I just love nursing and as he didn't know at age 20 what profession to pursue--i thought it would be for him.....(about a yr after flunking out of nursing school, he confided in me that during his last clinical, he had to put a foley in a patient about his fathers' age, and it totally freaked him out.....if he would have told me i would have been more supportive).. hindsite is 20/20.

Well for starters... World of Warcraft is addictive in a very litteral way... if he is into that game, he will not be making it through nursing school... I love online RPG games like those but would not go near them with a ten foot pole because i know how addictive they are.

He doesn't seem to be intrested in nursing and thats okay. You may be projecting it on him because you want to see your son do well but you need to let him decide on his own what he wants to do. Just my honest opinoin

Thanks for the update. Nice to see his (and your) evolution over a four-year period. You both survived!

Does he still spend a lot of time playing WoW?
