2013-2014 HRSA Nursing Scholarship Program

  1. 3 I know it is entirely too early but I wanted to get a thread going for all of you who are planning to apply for the NSP this upcoming year. I know it is becoming more and more popular and there are always questions and people wanting to share experiences and such so I hope this thread will become helpful! I have signed up to get the alert for when the application is available for the 2013-2014 FY and hope to meet others who will be applying as well.

Thanks for starting this! I'm just finishing up my first semester of nursing school, but I have 4 more to go! HRSA would be a huge blessing to me and my family.

Has anyone heard about the job prospects after you graduate? It seems to be my biggest concern because of the lack of HPSA facilities in my area that are rated 14 or higher. I would relocate but so many places want RN's with at least 2 years of experience. I think that it is definitely worth relocating or working in a rural area for 2 years when the payoff is free education! But at the same time it seems difficult to locate approved places? I wonder how that process works...I have not been able to find information about this on other threads. Any thoughts?

I'm going to apply and worry about that after I am blessed to get it, and graduate! We have a few facilities in my area, the VA is one approved place I believe. At the worst, I'll have to pay it back- like a loan.

Yea I've been wondering the same thing...if there is a time frame for when you must find employement esp with the lack of limited new grad jobs. The free education and extra money in your pocket does sound nice but is it worth it when u cant find a job approved by them?

Yea part of me says to just suck it up because of the great benefits like having your tuition paid for as well as a monthly stipend. I really want to work in underrepresented areas as is but the time frame they give is 6 months to find a job which with the way the market is today is short! I'm applying no matter what just would hate to not e able to find work.

I am for sure applying for this. I had found out about my acceptance to my nursing program just after the 2012 deadline closed. When will they be opening this up?

I was fortunate enough to be accepted to this HRSA scholarship last August. My school is very expensive and i think the commitment is worth it. Anyone else living in the LA area who applied?

I'm still in my first year of my MSN-FNP program so we will see when I get out. My friend got it too and graduated this year and is working at an LA clinic. She almost had to move somewhere she didn't want to go to, but someone she preferred finally accepted her

Yea that's my biggest fear is accepting the scholarship and then not finding a job within the time allotted
