Hey gang.........how's it going? Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel of first semester? 5 weeks to go for me (not that I'm counting...lol).

We just finished our clinical rotation at the nursing home. It was an experience, but also heartbreaking too seeing that this is how many people live out their final days. We start at the hospital on Tuesday for 4 weeks. I love my clinical group, we mesh so well & have fun together also. Our class as a whole seems to blend pretty well also & we help each other out. We've had 5 drop out so far, started with 30. Not quite sure how the other campuses are doing. I believe all of us are passing too...well until this happened....

Our instructor was 6 months pregnant when we started this semester. She had the baby a couple of weeks ago so we have a new instructor......one that seems to think the art of teaching comes from reading the book to us (word for word). We aren't happy at all....our first test with the new instructor consisted of 36 questions instead of the usual 50. We get our scores on Monday & I'm sure the complaints will be flying.

I'm curious to hear about how the rest of you are doing!!!!!

I'm doing GREAT!!!! It's spring break time....a much-needed chance to recoup my depleted energy level! ;) When I return...I will only have 6 weeks left in the semester. We'll only have 2 nursing tests left and the final exam. THAT I can handle. :)

not doing as well here. We have had two exams made 72 on the first 80 on the second have to have a 78 to pass the class. I study all the time I feel really good going into the exam but the results aren't what I expect.

I too am having a rough time with school, but I can do the work and such required....had a B at mid term, it is the personal problems that are giving me hell and making it hard to concentrate on school. I want to make it through this semester and if my hubby and I don't make some sort of decision over the summer I am taking next semester off to deal with this. I would rather take a semester off than fail out because I can't take the stress of my personal life....

Things are going great here, I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Finals are the week of the 21st and they can't get here too soon! We only have clinical 3 more times, and then on to nursing 120!!!

OMG I almost hate to say it (knocks on wood) but I am... BORED.

Classes are going along really well. Clinical is great and I can't get enough out of it. I have way too much time on my hands, 7 weeks til the end of the semester, and then the summer off. I've got my name in at 2 places to do part time student nurse tech work. HOPING to find out when I can start by Monday.

Please don't kill me. I'm sure it will get worse next fall... ;)

Memphisgurl.....those tests can be a pain. I would suggest getting one of those books that teaches you test techniques. The wording of the test questions can be tricky, try to break it down & figure out what it is they are asking for. Take your time with it.

Robin, I hope you do get things straightened out. Outside stress can really take away your focus in class. I hope things work out the way you want them to.

Wow NurseWeasel---you're just ready to jump right in there, huh? That's great. I'm sure you'll get some good news about being a student nurse tech.

I haven't decided what I'm doing yet over the summer. Thinking I may simply enjoy it since it will probably be the last one that I get 3 months off. Of course, things never go as planned for me...so who knows.

Glad to hear the rest of you are doing well. Was it harder or easier than you imagined? For me it was easier...well until we switched instructors. Now I can see how much of a difference it makes when you go from having a great instructor to one that isn't very good. I keep hearing 2nd semester is the make it or break it semester. We shall see. How many of your classmates have dropped out so far? Do you feel like your class has bonded or it's everyone for themself?

I am having a blast! First two exam scores were good, 86 on the first and 94 on the second, my lab and clinical instructors both say I am doing extremely well and to keep up the hard work. I am on my second week on an ortho floor (first clinical rotation was at a LTC facility) and loving every minute of it. :) I can't believe the semester is almost over!!!

We have bonded, but as girls will do, have formed several small cliques. We have lost one so far, but there are several I know of that aren't going to make it through microbiology, which would then also hold them up from progressing with us to 120 (we have no break and have 120A in the summer). We are also picking up about 60(!!!!) students that are a semester ahead of us because they failed 120 this time around.

I've found it to be easier than I thought, but I think it's because that's how it's supposed to be. I am glad they aren't throwing us to the wolves so to speak right away, I like how they are easing us into it so as to prepare us a little for what they expect. After all, it's an entirely different way of thinking, and some wouldn't swim, they'd sink if not prepared for it beforehand, yk?

This is my first semester and things are going well for me so far. I got to observe endoscopy today and I was really bored. Now I know that is something I don't want to do.

Our school accepted 30 students, but the first day of class one didn't show up. Since then 3 have dropped out. My friend in the program is dropping out tomorrow. Plus another student missed 2 clinicals so I think he is out.

I only have 5 weeks left this semester then I have school in the summer because I'm in an accelerated program where I get my RN in just 16 months. :p

Maire......you've only had 2 tests the entire semester? We have 8 plus the final.

Nurseweasel, I hear ya! 4.0 average!!! My only gripe is the boredom. I think I learn a lot more at work than I do in class. Although I must say, clinical is a dream. One pt! For an entire shift? Its like I died and went to nurse heaven! he he!To the rest of you guys, hang in there! The longer you do it, the easier it gets. Much love....
