100% on my exam and it wasn't exciting... :(

Hi everyone,

I recently got a 100% on my Med/Surg 2 exam. I'm normally a pretty good student. I get mostly A's but I have gotten a couple Bs. However, I really excel in clinical and I've gotten nothing but praise from my instructors. So, I actually feel pretty good about becoming a nurse. I feel like I put in a lot of effort and I honestly deserve the grades and praise I get.

However, recently with this 100% I feel sad and offended because my professor indirectly accused me of cheating... She didn't directly say it, but it was pretty obvious. She was asking me how I study and if I normally get these types of grades and said, "No one has EVER gotten a 100%, so we just wanted to talk to you..." and pretty much had a look on her face that said, "CHEATER!" It really really bothers me because I would NEVER EVER do something like that. I work WAY too hard and am paying WAY to much for school, along with the fact that I HONESTLY want to be an amazing nurse... anyway, you understand now, I would never do anything to hurt my chances of getting my BSN. Even though I know I would never cheat and I could have many of my past professors and classmates back me up, I don't want it to come to that. How can a professor automatically assume a student was cheating just because they did well on a test?? I guess it really hurts because I know myself and how I am with school... I should have been beyond thrilled and celebrated, etc, but all I can think about is that my professor is thinking totally different of me and that's really bothering me.

I study from many different materials, I never ever just read the book. I usually don't even read all the required material because I found out that that just doesn't work for me. I use like 6 different study materials and I feel like I'm finally figuring out how to "study smart."

Anyway, does anyone have any imput? I know some of you will think I'm being ridiculous, but this is just how I am.

100% on an exam does not happen to often. it was a valid question. i would just let it brush off your shoulders. you know you did not cheat and you know you deserved the grade. in the end that's all that matters right?

I am really sorry this happened to you. Very unpleasant and distressing too I bet. I don't know why they should be so proud that no one ever gets 100% -- that says it all really.

Unless they come back to you about it I would work hard on letting the matter pass. I completely understand that you won't forget it easily.

I use all sorts of study materials and have found that one of my instructors uses questions from another textbook (you know the ones at the back of each chapter) -- I found this because I do lots and lots of practice questions before an exam. So I do well.

Maybe, maybe it would be a valid question if I had been sitting in the back or if I moved from where Im normally sitting during lecture or if I was sitting really close to another student... but that's not the case. I was sitting in the front and in the same seat I always sit in and the people I was sitting between had different versions of the test.

But yes, you are right about the fact that I should just let it go... I just don't like that my professor is possibly thinking Im not a top student... and that Im one that would cheat to get high grades.

it's not unheard of to get a perfect score on a test and that doesn't mean that you cheated. i scored several 100%'s on nursing tests and would never, EVER, think about cheating. thankfully, my teachers were impressed and happy that i did well on my tests. in fact, my OB teacher said no one had ever gotten a perfect score on the OB final. what do you expect when you just regurgitate test questions?! lol. anyways. great job! you should be proud of yourself!

One time I had written a grocery list on the back of my hand and forgotten we had to take a test. Well of course I got accused of cheating later behind my back because I got good grades and the people in question were frustrated from doing poorly

What's on the test? Was a question, "Write down the unified field theory that has eluded Stephen Hawking." If not then the test was about the nursing field which is well documented and covered for education purposes. Unless your teacher writes "tricky" tests and you caught them then for get about it. Maybe their last grasp at superiority is in their tests.

Congrats on your 100%!! How super exciting! That stinks they thought you cheated though, I agree that I would think that they would be happy. It would be hard to shake it off, but do try to so it doesn't affect your future studies. BTW, mind sharing what study materials you use?

Thanks guys! :) This has made me feel a little better :)

For each class it's different but I usually use:

1. The actual text book for the class

2. The ATI book that goes with the class (ie: med/surg, leadership, etc)

3. The Success Series book that goes with the class (ie: fundamental success, med/surg success, etc)

4. Prioritization, delegation NCLEX book (A LOT of questions on nursing exams are prioritization and delegation!!)

5. HESI review book (it breaks down each topic into bullets and theres questions at the end)

6. ATI/HESI computer questions (we got access through our school)

7. Drug book or reference book to look up words, terms, diagnostic tests, lab tests, etc that I don't know (it makes it stick if I actually go and look them up :))

8. Any hand outs or notes from class because usually I'll highlight or underline if the professor goes, "remember this" or "you may see this again" or "this could be on the HESI at the end of the term" lol :)

It seems like others have your back on this one as well.

I also have gotten over 100% on several exams..and this year managed to pull off a 97% on my OB final. Don't let it discourage you. Keep doing what you are doing because its obviously working. If they keep asking you about your study habits, tell them and show them...I frequently re-write my lecture notes and chapters from the text into my own handwritten study guide..and my text books are all full of highlighters to prove I also read the material.
