$100 gift card from B&N... what to buy

  1. I'm not really into fiction at the moment and I would like to get something that will help me out with getting through the rest of school. NCLEX review books? Flash card sets? I dunno. What do you think I should pick up?

A review book with a CD for practice test questions would be good.

Also, maybe a book or two from the "Nursing Made Incredibly Easy" series.

If you don't have them already a review for NCLEX and a box of medication index cards would probably be a great way to use the gift card.

Lippincott, Saunders, Easy series of NLCEX books, Ackley's care plan, a Drug Book, Lab book, Memory notebook series if you like using pictures when you study.

I love gift cards from B&N!!! I got some for Christmas that are just burning a hole in my pocket.

The previous posters have wonderful ideas: I'd look for a really good NCLEX study guide with CD-rom, and just about any of the "Made Incredibly Easy" books. Also, a really good careplan book is a good idea, unless you're really happy with the one you're using in school. A med calc book is nice... the list is endless.

One of my favorite books (bought a year or so ago) was Algebra Demystified... your screen name! I like that alot; lots of practice questions.

Depends if you want to stick with school stuff or enjoyment. If you want school stuff get the NCLEX study guide, the cards, etc. I have a really good pocket notebook that has everything you'd ever need: conversions, what to do in a peds and adult code, proper meds for a code, even what certain religions and cultures believe and what not to do when caring for them. It's all laminated and you can write on it and it will only erase with those alcohol swabs we all have millions of.

I bought The Castle in the Forest about Hitler's childhood and The City of Fallen Angels, the same guy who wrote In the Garden of Good and Evil. Both look like good books.

I would probably be researching what books I needed for my next class, semester, etc. and buying them because they are much cheaper through B&N than the school's bookstore. Otherwise I would get a good NCLEX review book and something mindless and relaxing just for me. Ooooh - my Dad got me "Chicken Soup for the Nurse's Soul" for Christmas and it was wonderful. A nice, short inspiring story is great after a long day, and you can read one in just a few minutes or read several depending on the mood you're in.

    Enjoy the gift!

Any one of these. If you are close to graduation, I recommend the first two because you will need the NCLEX review for your uncoming licensing exam and the intravenous medication book will be very helpful to you as you go into practice:

Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination, 3rd edition, by Linda Anne Silvestri

2007 Intravenous Medications, 23rd edition, by Betty L. Gahart and Adrienne R. Nazarena (Mosby)

Nursing Diagnosis Handbook: A Guide to Planning Care
, 7th Edition, by Betty J. Ackley and Gail B. Ladwig.

Nursing Care Plans: Nursing Diagnosis and Intervention, 6th edition, by Meg Gulanick and Judith L. Myers

Fluid & Electrolyte Balance: Nursing Considerations, 4th edition, by Norma M. Metheny.

I just bought an RNnotes book to be used in clinicals (similar to what bethin suggested above); good care plan books are also good suggestions; and I LOVE all my Nursing Made Incredibly Easy books....I just started my second semester of an ADN program and have the Fluids & Electrolytes, Pathophysiology and just bought the Diagnostic Tests versions....I love using them as reference for something I need translated to English!!

Make sure to read the reviews listed near the bottom of the page...it appears a lot of people love this aid!

As an FYI, if you have a Borders store near you, and join their Borders Rewards Club (free), they will give you a 20% off coupon from their website (must join in the store, but you can print the coupon and take it with you when you join or they had them in the store, too). This helped me decide to buy in the store rather than wait for shipping!! Last month, they had a 25% off coupon!!
