I would encourage people except for the hiring freeze that is happening all over the country right now. I know a lot of new grads who are having a heck of a time finding work. That is very stressful! I pray that the economy will turn around soon!

Neutral because I don't think it's my place to encourage or discourage someone to go in to nursing. It is an internal, personal decision. I decided I wanted to go into nursing on my own, and only shared my plan with others when I was sure about it. Since I've made that decision people have been very encouraging, but that wasn't a factor in my decision and I didn't want it to be.

I don't think people should be talked into or out of any profession in any economic climate: give people the facts about the career, about the job market, about what is needed. They need to figure out what it is they want to do, what they are capable of, and how much they are willing to put on the line for it.

I think nursing as an industry in this day and age has so much to offer. There are so many fields and areas of business that we as nurses may enter. So many possibilities!

We wouldn't tell a lawyer to disregard money?
I would and I have. When I was considering law school, it wasn't for the money. It was because I wanted to help people and planned on working for a non-profit like Legal Aid. I don't think that people in helping professions (and yes, I do consider a lawyer to be in a helping profession) should go into their line of work just for the money.
