Where do you wear your stethoscope

Do you wear your stethoscope around your neck while working? If yes, does it cause neck strain, headaches or other problems? If no, where do you keep it while working?

I try not to wear mine around my neck. The oils from your skin get on the tubing and breaks it down. My step daughter had to have hers re-tubed for that reason.

Neck, otherwise I'd accidentally leave it somewhere if I carried it by hand, and it doesn't fit well in my pocket along with all the other stuff in there. It is slightly stiff mid-tubing after 5 years of having it. I always keep mine out of the cold, too.

Mine does not cause headaches, but I can notice the weight reduction when I take it off. They do sell lighter steths if yours is giving you trouble, Sarah

I don't wear one...then again, I'm in Psych I leave it in the desk and get it when I need it.

In clinicals, if I had the lightweightone that day, I'd wear it around my neck. If I had the cardiology one, I'd have to use a holster since it was heavier. It didn't cause me any neck problem...but it would keep sliping off of me.

I wear mine around my neck. Its a Litmann Cardio III so it is really light. I am tempted to put some net stocking/tube gaze around the tubing and change it every shift because of the oils in your skin thing. I got tired of wearing two stethoscopes (one for baby and one for mom) the Cardio III works for adults and peds.

Roy Fokker,

Thanks for the link, I was thinking about getting one of those! Just never have heard/seen anyone using it! I already do the hemostat + tape also!
