I've gone perm and color-free for about 3.5 years now, and my mil thinks I lighten my hair in streaks...no, it's nature's "silver highlights"!!

I get my hair trimmed maybe every 4-5 months, and I trim the bangs myself in between. I wear it into a bun or ponytail at work to keep cool and keep it out of my face. I can't wear short hair, my face is too chubby, forehead too high, hair thinning and glasses. So it is now a few inches below shoulder.

Hair down to my waist (yes I am over 50) was red and still am (with grey well hidden) color every 3 months, trim at that time. cost? $200.
could I pay more? yes...but use a local shop that knows me well.

Having my hair and makeup look nice makes me feel prettier in my big not stylish scrubs. LUXURY

What hairstyle?
I keep mine long enough for restraints (ponytail or bun). Own barettes as old as 50 years. (I beaded it myself at bible camp as a young teen.)

Use dandruff shampoo with conditioner. Sometimes use the loving color that washes out in a few weeks but am usually grey.
Sister trims split ends for me about twice a yeat. It's been the same "style" since I was 14.

one last comment.....I wear my hair braided at work, because it is out of my face and not in the way of pt. care. At home and at social activities my hair is down and I feel very comfortable with it. I wear my hair at work in a way that suits my work. I do not style it or cut it for that purpose. But, I do respect the dress code at work and I "address my hair" in an appropriate way. LOL

Even more importantly, is it tax deductible?

Share! Between coloring, cutting, styling, and maintaining, about how much do spend on your hair annually?

Ouch- I just did the math. I get a cut with highlights and lowlights every six weeks, for $180. Factor in tips, products and accessories and I'm pushing $2k a year.

I don't even want to think about how much I spend at the spa......

I try to get the best hair products when they are on sale, and I alternate between the less expensive brands. When I had my perms and coloring, I would always buy the best I could afford to maintain my perm and coloring.

LOL!

Well, if you can call a pony tail a hairstyle ...

At 27, I do now have a number of grey hairs distributed on the top of my head. I will be getting it colored soon. That will also be necessity.

I've been coloring my hair for several years now, because I prefer dark red to dirty blonde.

Lately, however, I've noticed some gray hairs in my eyebrows .... I guess I've now gone from luxury to necessity, too! Just never noticed the buggers in my hair since I get it colored!
