Wildtime- What are some examples of male-dominated jobs requring similar education but paying alot more? I know, I know, computers. Although, lately ads for computer jobs in the Connecticut papers and the New York Times are down to almost nothing. Anyway, I'm talking about things we wouldn't think of. Like I had no idea that an auto parts manager makes that much. Just curious...

Lightbulb another option?
Wildtime:: I think another option that could have been added is:
working because I am the only one to have the family medical insurance as spouse/sig. other/roommmate is self employed.

The only reason I continue to be employed .8 (8 days per 2 week pay period instead of 10= point eight), is that is the lowest I can go without losing our medical insurance. I wish they would pro rate it and I would go to 2-3 days a week! And by the way, how come, we, in the medical field have to pay a portion of our medical insurance, while those in many other fields have their insurance paid for and usually have better coverage to boot??
We are in the medical field and we can't take care of our own. There is something wrong with this picture!

Like some others, I work my husbands days off to avoid putting kids in daycare. I bring home about the same amount of money, but would make more than him if I chose to work full time. Now he's taking the prerequisites the nursing program.

Thanks Wildtime!

Pretty depressing. And ya' know what's funny; I have an ex from many years ago, who I last heard was working in auto parts. In my own snitty, self-satisfied way, when I heard this I thought to myself that 'I've gone on to be a professional!'. And I thought his job was like equivalent to a k-mart clerk. (Don't hate me, I'm not usually such a snob, but I reserve the right to indulge in revenge fantasies regarding the ex). Now I know that college-dropout is probably out-earning me! Grrrrrr!! I guess it serves me right for being so snitty.

I am the sole breadwinner for my household. I have one child at home and one that is old enough to sorta come and go, lately he has been gone which is neither here or there because he doesn't contribute monetarily when he is here. I am divorced, I have an underaged child and the ex rarely provides support of any kind...he takes her shopping occasionally and thinks that buying her clothes makes up for lack of support. Yeah, I know I could take him to court, it just isn't worth it.

Depends on where you are i suppose;
in this area only the airline pilots,plumbers, architects and surveyiors make more than $40,000,
Truck driver $7, electricians $12, Equipment operators $7-$15, machinests $6 (yes that is correct, Maybe $7) Greens keepers $10 on public courses, $15 on private. all this in a heavily union dominated area. Now if we are talking the rudley over paid auto workers at GM and Ford, thats a whole different story, Pushing a broom will get ya $40,000/year, millwrights about $80,000, gee i wonder why a stipped down econbox cost $15,000

I work FT 12 hour shifts. My husband is a self employed dairy farmer. Talk about zero benefits!! I have great health insurance through my employer which is the main reason I work FT. To obtain medical insurance through my husband for our family would be outrageous!!! With my benefits, I probably make a little more than my husband. My husband works a lot of hours for the pay!! But he loves it!!! I guess that what is matters most!
