Default Well this is interesting......
As my first name is Bobette I have been called many variations of the correct pronunication.. My favorite is from a Pakisitani doc we have who loves to call me Boobette..He even came in the med room one day and asked how my boobs were and I said, " Fine, thanks for asking." Heck when I go to lunch I sign out as Boobette. Everyone knows where I am.. Actually prefer bobbi. Yes with a small case first letter.. See, I know who I am I don't need a capital letter to start my name.... Respect comes from within just like love and know one bar none can give that to you but yourself.....

May the sun shine brightly on you, in peace, and may the wind be always at you back or something like that....

Having started in nursing when Columbus landed I have seen periods when the form of addressing each other has gone the full circle.

I am most comfortable with the Dr._________. I am also most comfortable with being addressed as Mrs. _________.

I have been working in a teaching, state funded facility for many years. I do not even attempt to learn or remember medical student names anymore--they come and go too frequently. I do learn the resident's names and of course I know the staff MD's names (some of which were medical students and residents at our facilty).

I feel that as long as I am treated with respect, the form of address used is a personal decision and should be what is comfortable for both parties involved.

I think it all depends on the person. I generally call the residents by their first name it I know it, which is a 50/50 thing, if I don't know their name it's usually, somthing like "hey doc, i need and order for 1of ativan and 5 of haldol" or some such thing, some attendings are called by their first name, some as Dr. whatever. latley i've been in this groove that our ID started when he ansers the phone, he just uses his last name, "Yeah this is Brass, you paged?" so i started calling everone by their last name ie: Brass, jones, Smith, whatever works for ya i guess. I still call the old schol doc Dr. Whatevertheirnameis. Realize however that the docs treat guy nurses a whole lot differently than the ladies. Mater of fact i think i'l start a new post on the subject.
