My cap was all white, no stripe for LPNs.My pin was a gold shield with laurel leaves on top and a white cross in a red circle, with the word Amen on it and in a white ribbon , the name of the school, Sacred Heart School of Practical Nursing.

Our cap had to be starched flat on the bathroom wall (any flat smooth surface) the formed into the "covered wagon" effect in the back. There is 13 pleats and I blistered or cut my little fingers (pulling the starched strings) each time I had to make a new one. The brim has velvet stipes that were attached using KY jelly. The number and locaton of you stripes denoted your status as a nurse. Hurt your head to wear, pulled the hair out of your head if you bumped it while wearing. I actually wore a wig at work for a few years just to preserve my own hair.
Our pin looked like every other pin in NY from a state school. Our actual school and name and dae of graduation was engraved on the back.
Now I am gleefully without cap (and wig). My pin is somewhere around here but I haven't seen it in a few years.

Yes, I have a new nurse cap and my orginial pin. After being out of nursing for 8 years, I find myself back walking the halls. Unfortunately, I do NOT have my orginial hat. I guess I lost it somewhere in the last 28??? (oh gosh I'm getting old!) years since I was graduated from nursing school. Recently, we had "dress up" day as part of the National Hospital Week, so we all went down and got caps to wear for the pictures. My orginal hat looked like a toilet paper roll on top of my head. The 1st confused patient I was getting off a bed pan said "well you have a roll of TP on your head" and that was the last day I wore my orginal hat.
Since I won 2nd place in the best dressed competition, I have 1. gotten a lot of flack from some of my co-workers, but 2. got a LOT of compliments from a LOT of people about wearing my hat. I have been wearing a univeral hat with just the black stripe this week. I'm still considering making it permanent. Hmmmm ...gotta think about it. I think I did get treated more professionally but maybe it was just a good week, too!

I have both caps and pins (LPN and RN) from my respective schools. The LPN pin was dark blue with gold edging and a white enamel lamp in the middle. The cap was in the old style (flying nun) with one turquoise horizontal stripe at the top. The RN pin is black with gold scalloped edging. The cap is white with a black horizontal stripe running across the top. It is a smaller version of the flying nun. I have worn the caps only for my capping ceremony, but I wear the RN pin on my badge, just as I did with the LPN pin.

Gold pin, shaped like a football. I wonder where it is?

Mine is round, gold -toned pewter (couldn't afford the 14K gold one) with the school's name on it. I used to wear it on my badge, but the pin broke. It sits in my jewelry box now. We didn't have to wear caps. Good thing, I look really ridiculous in them (or any hat) with my pointy little head.

Our pin is round, with a blue enamel circle and "LVN" in gold letters around the edge, with the silhouette of our county & name of college in the middle.

Unfortunately our (California!) county looks like Louisiana!

No cap, but I own one for nostalgia and wore it the last day of my preceptorship.

I was given a vintage cape from Orange County General Hospital as a wedding present... it's navy with an orange lining. How ankle-length wool ever worked in SoCal I don't know, but it looks very professional. Served me well during this winter.

I have both cap and pin. My cap is the typical one clip-art uses to represent nurses. We only were required to wear it twice, on the first day of second year when we were bestowed a blue band to signify the successful completion of year one, and on graduation day when we donned our black band. My cap currently adorns the head of a large white bear that guards my office, My pin is 10k gold, a Maltese cross with a gold cross in the center and blue enamel around that. Around the edge it says "St Boniface General Hospital" in raised print. I wear my pin to work every single shift. I have it secured around the tab on my ID card; it sits very nicely over my last name. We recently got new ones because of the pending grand opening of the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute that has a lot of electronic access controls and we were no longer allowed to leave off our last names. Many people, myself included, didn't like that idea, having had issues with security in the past. But this solution works for me!

I bought it...but I definitely earned it!!! We didn't even get a pinning ceremony, but some nursing school buddies took a pic of an instructor pinning me after I passed the HESI/Final exam.
