Youngest age of a nurse

  1. I couldn't find anything when I searched and I've seen some discussions about the oldest age of a nurse. I hear all the time about how young I am, yet I'm a traditional college student. It's strange that the traditional student at my college is almost 27 years old. What is the youngest anyone here was starting out as a nurse, or have you heard of anyone in your classes or at work starting out at young ages?

We started out in our class with three 18-year-olds who had graduated high school in May and started NS in August. Only one ended up completing the RNprogram, which made her 19(20?) at graduation last year. She was one of the best students in class too.

I was 20 when I graduated nursing school..I guess the youngest age would be 19..I know people I work with that were 19 when they graduated nursing school..That is getting your 2-year degree

I just graduated at 21 with my BSN. I think there were just a couple more in my class the same age as me.

We had a girl who was homeschooled in Aruba. She joined us when she was 16. At the time you had to be 21 for an RN license. It must have stuck, she's the Director of Nursing for one of the largest hospitals in the state.

A friend of mine graduated HS at 15 and had her BSN by the time she was 18. A bit of a BRAIN if you know what I mean. She is now in her late 30's and works in management. She had a really hard time with other nurses for a lot of years before they respected her. She also has the face of a baby, people still think she is only in her early to mid 20's.

I was 21 when I graduated. I graduated HS at 17 and had pre reqs and a wait list. Or I would have been 19 if I entered right after HS.

I have had famlies actually try to guess my age while I am assessing their loved one. Usually they tell me "You look so young to be a nurse." I usually end up telling them how old I really am and I am sometimes mistaken to be around 18-22 and I am 27. Sometimes I feel the family dosen't always respect me since I look so young. This happens less now because I think having more experience and self confidence helps.

Hi, I was a 19y/o lpn many moons ago..lol. I finished and recieved my RN license at 20. In ns at 17. I did get the less respect thing, even in ns (as if nursing students aren't disrespected enough!)

I went to school with a 17 year old fresh from high school. I recently worked with a homeschooled woman who finished her ADN at age 19. She was a very grounded, mature young lady. I enjoyed working with her. By age 21 she was a homeowner and started traveling.
