I would, however, have a doctor as my "man friend" if we were both single, and if he were physically fit, attractive, a nonsmoker, a nice guy, likes animals, and could ride a motorcycle.

Is this a joke? I thought this type of thing happened in the 50s or something ... way to set the women's movement back 40 years?!

I probably wouldn't marry a doctor because of the incredibly long hours they put in and the fact that I'd never see them.

If you're serious about finding a husband at work, then work in a male oriented environment, rather than a female one!

Yes, because I'm in a relationship with one.

But hell, I didn't actually "plan" on this to happen as opposed to OP's "excellent way to marry doctor's". I have had both good and bad experiences with them- mostly good thank God, but one thing I learned, you can't streotype somebody or people for doing what they do. I was this once, and was quite surprised upon knowing there's more to the typical God-complex-worship-me factor that most of them sort of have.

Smile Re: Would you marry a doctor?
That is too odd. I am really sad for you for keeping your objective of choosing this dignified profession in such a low standard. Anyway now you are in, it is time that you check and change that objective to a better and productive one. I have no intention of questioning you personal interests, but I think you should look for a nice person, why narrow your option to just doctors.

You opinion about docs’ have changed to ‘as odd a thing’ as it was that of your aim for coming to nursing. Doctors are a heterogeneous group. You will find all type of people there also. I know docs who are as uncultured as nomads and as ill mannered as barbarians. This doesn’t means that all doctors are the same. Most of them who I have met are really nice people. I have the opinion that most of them are intelligent, dedicated, and well mannered people. Respect other profession as that you yours.

Not in a million years. Here is why If they are on call as most of them will be. The phone rings all night. If their patient is bad they have to get up and go to the hospital. The majority are egomaniacs. Their hours are 24-7 esp. when they are young. and then there are the nurses who go to nursing school who wants to marry a doctor and she wants yours. Thanks I will keep my drug and alchohol counsellor

Chuckle chuckle...I did, but I didn't go into nursing to marry one, he was a resident at the time and I had met him while he was in med school. He was an FP, we moved to a small town and I was up at all hours, delivered two babies on the floor in the house yuk. He couldn't keep it zipped so I moved on. I was a nurse before and after him but I did burn out shortly after the big D and now after many years I'm trying to get into a refresher (that's another story). The divorce rate for Doc's is pretty high, years and years of school leave them with not many social graces, and they still work long hours depending on their specialty. Would I do it again...H3LL no.

Nowadays who has time to flirt at work? If you have time to flirt with doctors, med students, interns, RRTs, lab techs, then you seriously have too much time on your hands.

Marriage is not about elevating you to the status of a physician. The marriages that last are about love, mutual respect, humor, compassion, and integrity. This can happen when you work with someone; whatever their profession might be; but to choose a career specifically to "marry a doctor" puts you down: like you are somehow not enough on your own.

Good luck and I hope that you find happiness in whoever you find.

Signed; traumarus, married 30 years to someone I met on the job while we were both active duty military!
