working in Alaska

  1. I am an aussie currently working in the middle east. I am working in a cardiac specialist centre and am looking into working in the US. I am considering going to Alaska (being one who does things in extreme, nothing like going from the desert to the cold)

I am a RN who enjoys cardiothoracics and would be interested in hearing from anybody that is wroking in a similar field in Alaska, or anywhere else for that matter. Advice that anybody could offer on gaining registration and the NCLEX would be greatly appreciated.

I have been informed that you can only work in the state in whcih you are registered, is there are ant states that give you registration that can be used elsewhere?

    advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Ausi,

Come to CANADA. its great!! We have moose & beavers & GOOD Beer (Fosters is ok). Dont expect a gold medal in basketball, however we do ok in other places.

    Hmm why do I love Canada. . . . .

NO HMO's ( or very very few)
    No forced OT
Most main centers have an all RN nursing staff.
The peds hospital I work has a patient load of 1:4, 1:1 in acute areas.
The ER is the only real trauma center dedicated to peds in the city (international rep)

I have also thought about going to the US but the stories I hear sometime on this BB scare the life out of me.

I would love to hear some of you stories about Saudi, thats were I Would like to practice in a couple years.

TO ALL MY AMERICAN FRIENDS I WISH I COULD SAY GOOD LUCK IN SUNDAYS GAME, BUT I AM CANADIAN, LOL

It should be a great game nonetheless. North America rules!

Zhakrin, you forgot to mention crappy pay and a health care system about to be butchered by the gov't! You must be at sick kids one of the few remaining jewels in our tarnished crown. I say go to Alaska.

And Canada better win the hockey game!!!
