Hi fellow nurses,

I fell while working an EMS shift landing square on my mandible and of course breaking it.... Anyway I am wired shut for the next few weeks and will be limited to liquidish food...

I am looking for amy food ideas, has to be smoothie like texture as i have to squeeze it through my teeth... Thanks! I am getting bored with mashed potatoes, spagettios, and ensure!

Happy

Try Allrecipes for creative smoothies and soups. Sorry to hear about mandible =(

That sounds terrible! Prayers coming your way!

Apple sauce or other sauced fruits, yogurt, smoothies, shakes, puddings, try the stuff in the baby food aisle though many types wont taste all that good. Cream of wheat, farina, cream of rice, oatmeal you can water all of these down with milk until it is a consistency you can tolerate.

Soups are good too but only of they are smooth or creamy rather than chunky. You can put a chunkier soup in a blender to get it to what you can tolerate.

You can vary the mashed potatoes with adding stuff to them like flavorings or mash both regular and sweet potatoes together.

( used to work on oral maxilary facial surgery unit and had Post op pts with wired jaws)

Sorry this happened, hope you feel better soon.

Oh, man, that bites. No pun intended. You can puree anything but bleh. Really, lots of yogurt/fruit smoothies with some protein powder is all I can come up with.

try putting stuff in the blinder I have to do this with a lot of veg. I eat it looks gross but tast the same .

OH and squeezing it through your teeth? Is it possible to suck it around your back teeth ? Did they discharge you with a catheter tip syringe? We would modify ours with a piece of flexible suction tubing so you could feed through it. We would take the suction tubing and put it on the end of the catheter tip syringe and then cut it at 1-2 inches on an angle. draw up whatever you are going to eat and them place the syringe in the mouth towards the back and them push the liquid in as slowly or as quickly as you can tolerate.

Ouch! You poor thing!! I have a baby that I'm making baby food for right now and I have to say, a lot of it is quite tasty! Peel, put in the microwave (Covered) and cook for about 5 minutes until tender. Puree. Voila. Some require water in the cooking or pureeing stages, some don't. My 2 favorites are peaches and carrots. You can put some butter and spices in with the veggies as you puree them or spices on fruit. I find myself licking the spoons :)

Honestly eating mashed potatoes for a couple weeks straight sounds like a dream come true ( granted this coming from someone 40 weeks pregnant with weird cravings lol) I don't really have many ideas but if you can get your hands on a peri bottle they make great sports bottles for beverages

baby bannas are the best :lol2:

I don't have a lot of liquid food ideas, but I will tell you that the Slim Fasts taste SO much better than Ensure...especially the Rich Chocolate Royale flavor.

If you like the cream of chicken/mushroom etc. soups they might be ok.

I am so sorry that you are going through so much pain! I hope you heal up very quickly.
