:p I am very worried that I will not be able to get a job after graduating lpn school in may of this year. The reason being is that I have had 12 jobs within 10 years in the past. I was a cashier, housekeeper, medical assistant, secretary, and deli assistant. The longest I have worked at a job was 7 months! I am now 28! Single with 2 kids, I was dependent on my live in bf all these years, ran from the credit companies so they couldnt garnish me of my pitiful checks I did get, now he has no job been out of one for 8 mo.s, and says he wont since he is sitting the kids while I am in school. I am afraid to put anything down on my resume or applications. What do I do? Am I doomed? How do I erase a bad work history? I went to school for lpn because this was my dream, I cant ruin my dream come true! Someone help me please!!!!!!!!!!!!I want to work permanent now that I found my dream.

I am in Grant County. What do I tell employers? Should I tell them I was taking care of my kids instead?

Look at the bright side....You can not erase a work history, but you can use it to your advantage.

A good cover letter with a resume can explain it away.....

You can present yourself as a person who worked several jobs as you matured, looking for your niche and now discovering it. Your previous jobs did not require extensive education as preparation. To be an LPN you will have attended school for a longer time period than you ever held a job. I believe that most potential employers would view this favorably.

You have life experiences in a multitude of other fields which will stand you in good stead as you pursue your dream.

I think that you should tell the truth. It is never good to lie on an application because it will come back to haunt you someday

Hey, you did what you had to do, went back to school and now you are job hunting in your new profession. You'll be fine!

Kudos to you--and don't be ashamed of having had several jobs! It would be far worse to lie on an application--when they ask, tell them the truth, and be proud that you have gone to school to accomplish your dream!

Best of luck to you!

Make your work history into something positive by taking a good hard look at what you learned while at those jobs. I'm sure there are positive experiences you took away from some of them such as how to work as a team, how to multitask things other than a household and kids, organization, delegation etc. Promote those positive things you learned into your resume. I doubt that you will have a problem finding a job.
