I was just wondering if there was a relationship between pet type, gender and nursing specialty....Post your responses...

...because taking them to use the restroom, and for a short walk, brings them insane amounts of happiness and it's contagious. Because they don't demand gourmet food, a little water from the can of tuna I just opened on their dogfood is a treat like none other. Because they talk complete nonsense. Okay, well my humans do that too. Because they have spasms of joy just knowing I'm awake and in the same room. My dog will go to his crate to barf on a nice cleanable surface, and my daughter has never made it to the toilet once with puke. :-)

They just want to be with you all the time, they're never throwing judgment and their love is unconditional:redbeathe

They'll be there when times are tough, they will protect you and they will make you laugh hysterically. My puppy definitely does:chuckle Not to mention, they are some of the best listeners I have ever found!

i absolutely adore parrots

Female,RN- I have been cared for by 2 beautiful Old English Sheepdogs.

I just lost my 2cd OES in Feb 2011 to an autoimmune disease at

the age of 6 yrs 10 month. He was a gentle , loving and fun even with a

disposition. I miss him intensely.

In addition, I have seen that many nurse own or are lease owners of

horses. In terms of care, horses appear to also provide a stress reducing

and focus for nurses as well. I ride, but do not have my own horse.

I found riding to take me away from the stress of nursing and many

of the men and women who had stressful jobs found a sea of tranquility,

with weekly or more trips to the stable for tacking, care and riding of their

horse.

I came across this thread just now as I am on allnurses to try and take my mind off of losing my Newfoundland less than a week ago to status epilepticus :crying2:& finding out the anxiety ridden female has inoperable tumors (12 years old). I can tell you for sure that the grief I feel is like losing a child. Sorry if I depressed anyone, I just had to share it as a way to try and cope.

So sorry for your loss. The years go by way too fast, and they sure become one of the family.

In Feb 2011, I lost my Old English Sheepdog at 6 yrs 10 months to an autoimmune disorder and

the complications thereof. The loss has been devastating as he was so young. It still at times

does not feel real. If you need someone to talk to, please pm me. I have found some good resources

I can share with you...

SICU nurse (late to the party!), 7 year old female Basenji.

My Chihuahua Bobby aka Bunda is the BEST greeter in the world. I look forward to opening the door and having him give me doggy kisses. He does not care if I look like a hot mess and smell like carrion:lol2: :smokin:.

Mine's not much of a greeter. An open door means escape to a basenji. But she's the best junk mail shredder in the world. She thinks that's her JOB!

Female, MDS Coordinator, 1 Chihuahua, 4 Cocker Spaniels, 1 Turtle & Fish. :heartbeat

I like animals outside though . . . .no cat and dog "tush" on my furniture or bed. This only happened as I grew up - as a kid, I slept with all my animals.

My oldest son's cat had kitties in his bed . . . that was memorable.

Wow!!I do sleep with my dog too. I thought I was the only one doing this stuff :yeah:
