why do you come to this site?

by CEN35

Ok this is not a cut down in any way, shape or form on the site. I think Brian has done an excellent job with it, and I like it alot. This is just a curiousity question? I have a few reasons, but will not go into it. Mostly because sometimes I beleive I think a little too much, too deep, and get carried away.......so I'll keep shut.

Anyways, why do you come here? Any specific reasons? What else do you do online? Any other decent sites related to nursing, or not?

Just like my last thread (wild, sus k, level II, Hollykate etc) I am expecting this one to flop, because I suppose in all actuality it might be a dumb thread, but was curious.

Rick

I come here because it's fun...kind of like a huge sorority or frat of friends and collegues(sorry, can't spell tonight). I have gone to other sites but there is nothing as good as this on the net. And I get to talk to wild and crazy guys like Rick...lol. See you on the boards..bye

To me this board is an exchange of ideas, a stress outlet, nursing humor, and a great place to get advice or ideas. I confess I do like reading the posts even if I cannot add anything to the discussion.

Hi CEN35,

I come to this site because I love to read other nurses opinions and love to see the arguments that people get into. I love conflict when other people are invovled. Plus I get Ideas and get to vent and give other nurses and so forth infromation and advice. This by far is the best nursing BB on the net that I've found!

You are so bad!!! Hee hee!!

I like coming here because I can talk to people OTHER than the folks at work about nursing, and they understand what I'm going through. My husband is great, but he just has no concept of what I'm experiencing at work sometimes.

I also think a lot of the people who post here are pretty damn funny and enjoy reading their posts for sheer entertainment.

Good post, Rick...

p.s.--the only other places I visit online are foxnews.com, neal boortz' home page, and cnn.com...in that order.

Heya, Rick. I come here because no one understands a nurse like another nurse. My husband just rolls his eyes at me. Plus it's a great place to vent---again, because no one understands but another nurse. I can't say I come here for the arguments and conflicts...there's enough of that at work . But I do enjoy the exchange of ideas. This place has given me a lot to think about. And it gives references to what's happening in nursing around the country and around the world. Provides us with a community.

What else do I do online? Well, I'm a big time Asheron's Call fan. It's a massive-multiplayer-online-roleplaying game, kinda dungeons and dragons stuff. You play in realtime with other players from all around the world and defeat evil in the land of Dereth! You get to kill monsters instead of people, which is why it appeals to me as a game and you meet people from all around the world.

Interesting thread. I look forward to the replies.

I come to the board because as a student, I'm somewhat sheltered to a lot of the realities that come with nursing. I think a lot of the issues that I read about will help to lessen some of that reality shock that's going to slap me in the face when I graduate (next week, YAY!).
Also, of course, the humor and the understanding that my family can't really give me. No one but a nurse really wants to hear all of the crazy, wonderful, or frustrating aspects of the profession.
I can't always contribute to the discussions, but I love to read them.
No, I haven't found any other baord quite like this, I only wish I'd found it sooner.

I too am a student as well as a ED tech. I come to this board for many of the reasons already mentioned, however I also enjoy learning from the wide array of nursing professionals that post on this BB. I particularly enjoy reading posts regarding your positions on current issues in nursing. It helps keep me informed and it is also fun. The individual subjective experiences are quite interesting and there is a lot of good advice posted for those of us who are inexperienced.

Hey Rick, this is not a dumb idea at all! I LOVE this site!! I really can't add much to what's already been said, but I think the main reason is that no one can relate to a nurse like another nurse. Like the thread "what freaks you out?" No one except a nurse (well, maybe not NO one) could relate to that stuff! This is the only site I visit every single day.

Well when I wrote this thread/question......I had a couple reasons in mind. After reading a few posts, I realized that there were even more reasons.

1) The humor that some people make, whether intentionally or not.

2) Keeps me utd on the latest nursing issues, and what is going on elsewhere.

3) As someone previously said, the spouse has no clue and "roll" their eyes at you, like your a nut..lol!

4) Conflict? I think not.......that's why I made the Wild, Susy K, Level II, Hollykate, etc thread. I have had it with conflict and argument. While freedom of speech is an excellent thing in this country, it can lead to problems. At home and work, there is always conflict, so I TRY to avoid it when I can here (except for my last ANA post).

5) This is one of the reasons why I come here, and probably what some will consider the most stupid. I like to meet people (another reason for the Wild, Susy K, Level II, Hollykate, etc thread. However, I have also been leary of the people you meet online.....you never know what they are really like? Psychos, killers, whatever? Which was my initial reason for a name like CEN35, rather than Rick RN or something like that. I have found in the last year and a half on these BB's, that I have yet to run into any weirdos or nuts. I have received some emails from some, and thought maybe they will stick with the emails become friends. Most have faded, which is kind of a bummer. That's my downside, sometimes to much faith or hope i9n certain situations.....lol!

Last - I haven't found another board like this......this site is an excellent site, and Brian has done an excellent job with it. I think the added chat room, has added a whole new dimension too it also, and hope to see more of the regulars and people I have gotten to know in there.

Ok I am done babbling, sorry

Rick
