Parade.com published an article today in honor of National Nurses Week. To celebrate the occasion, they posted a poll to find out who America thinks is the best fictional nurse on television.

allnurses was also featured in the article as a place where "real nurses" network.

And if you'd like to pay tribute to some real-life nurses this week, head over to allnurses.com, a networking site for RNs and nursing students. There, you can write a thank you message and the site will share it with its users.

The last portion refers to our new ThankANurse site, which was launched on Nurses Day 2014.

To read the entire article and participate in the poll, go to It's National Nurses Week! Poll: Who's the Best TV Nurse?

Whoa...I guess she just used an IV pole instead of a stripper pole. ;)
And it was a red & white 'stripper' pole.

She was a wild child as I remember.

Carol Hathaway, here. :)

Niecey Nash as Didi Ortley LPN.

Getting On (2014) Most realistic and hilarious medical show ever. Best portrayal of a nurse ever.

on HBO and Amazon. Thank God for HBO.

She deserves an Emmy.

Now I'm hooked thinking back to General Hospital. Remembering Jessie Brewer, RN, Audrey Hardy, RN, and Amy Vining, student nurse.

Jessie was like a head nurse/supervisor and Audrey was DON. I think. Amy was a candy stripper/student who always just seemed to be at the desk. And I remember Jessie and her navy blue sweater - was never without it that I can think of.

Jessie Brewer, RN! *LOL*

Had forgotten about GH! What sticks in one's mind about Nurse Brewer is did she ever take off that cap and sweater? *LOL*

Even as Bobbie Spencer and other young new RNs ditched their caps and went for more modern and comfortable uniforms, Jessie Brewer was still in those long or bracelet sleeved uniforms with her cap and often that sweater. jessie-brewer.jpg

Given Bobbie Spencer's penchant for "big Farrah Fawcett" hair, it probably is a good thing she ditched her cap. *LOL* ce83c5c28b7d9ceda395a089f03be84f.jpg

Remember watching an episode of "T70'sS" and seeing Kitty having breakfast at her kitchen table in her uniform (complete with sweater) and cap. I was like "ok....." *LOL*

Yes, this show is easily a candidate for the most accurate protrayal of nursing, ever. And kudos to them for setting the show on a geriatric care unit and resisting the temptation to have the show revolve around ER or OR like, y'know, every other medical show, ever. Nice to see something original.

And I love Nicey Nash, too. Nice to see they're not typecasting her as the "sassy, heavy set black nurse with a heart of gold".

I was a little miffed that the LVN on the show is depicted to do strictly aide work... but acknowledging there are different levels of nursing at all show this show is at least bothering to do some research, which is more than one can say about most medical shows.

I would like to a nurse in House. The doctors draw labs, talk to the patients for hours at a time, gather their own information for H&Ps, run the codes entirely, are ridiculously good-looking AND every patient room and OR has a romantic mood lighting scheme flattering for all skin tones. All I would need to do is scoff at Gregory House once in a while, maybe catch a little flak and then clock out.

My mom always wanted to be a nurse on Guiding Light. You never saw a patient anywhere; all your friends could hang out and visit you at work and the hospital cafeteria was the most happening place in town.

There was an "Omni-Nurse" on Trapper John, MD. There she is in OB...no, there she is in the OR...no, she's over there in the ED, etc.

I can't remember if it was Trapper John or St. Elsewhere. But the ER nurse was a bit spaced out because she was having boyfriend problems. So Trapper (or whoever) and his sidekick decided that she should transfer to med-surg for awhile, because presumably anyone could do that in their sleep. The hospital apparently didn't have any nurse administrators.:nurse:

There was an episode of "ER" where the emergency room nurses were staging a job action (apparently only that department) so replacements were sent from other units/floors. Into the ER walked this older nurse in starched white dress, cap, white hose and shoes. She was seconded from OB/GYN or L&D/maternity (cannot remember which) and it had me cracking up.

Aside from the uniform am thinking "yeah, a nurse who has been on maternity since Nixon was in office is *really* going to function in the ER during a job action with no one to turn to but other nurses sent down from god only knows.

Well that big hair sure was a firm anchor for her cap. In the real world would have loved to swab and culture that sweater.
