White Pants Underwear Woes

Nurses General Nursing

As a former wardrobe and fashion consultant, I can't help but notice anytime I see an otherwise professionally dressed nurse, whose undergarments are noticeable because they too, are white, or even worse, colored or a print. Wearing nude undergarments, makes them far less visible especially when wearing white slacks. I don't know about you, but when I'm at work, I want to be seen as the professional that I am. If my undergarments are noticeable, it detracts from the message that I want to send, and that gets in the way of my interactions with my patients as well as with other health care professionals. It's not a huge thing, but why look this way when it's so easy to fix it.

When I have had to wear whites, I have bought white twill pants, pull on, elastic waist, at K-mart or Wal-mart in the spring and summer months. That fabric is heavy enough to provide modesty.

JC Penney's carries Gloria Vanderbuilt white denim jeans. Mervyns also carries a white denim jean - can't remember the name.

They don't have to look like Wranglers or Levis . . .

Here's another mascara tip.... always look down when applying mascara. My eyelids are always puffy in the morning b/c of my hubby's feather pillow & I always end up looking like I tried black eye pencil on my top lid... but once I started looking down, no more mascara on the eyelids. WOOO HOOO..

Nude under white is THE way to go... Victoria's Secret has those cotton panties 5pr/$25. They are GREAT

Hopefully, you all won't be having to wear white pants once you graduate from nursing school. I was told when I started in the ICU to never wear white pants because I'd never get the stains out. The ER where I currently work supplies the uniforms for the same reason. Some shifts I have to change two or three times. Thank God, sincerely, those days for me are rare.

I posted this on another post about white scrubs, but I wear white nursing support hose under white scrubs, can't see panties lines and my legs don;t hurt after 12 hours on my feet.

Yea, this is a topic about to come up for me and my classmates. Our pinning ceremony is in May where we are to wear white scrubs. Someone (student, teacher, etc) is going to have to bring up the subject of wearing nude colored undergarments under the white scrubs, not to mention we are under super bright white lights. I had to wear white scrubs for my LVN pinning and we had to bring the subject up then as well.

As far as wearing the scrubs again; when I worked two 12 hour shifts in a row, I would wear the white pants or white top (not together) but with another color top/pants (don't want you to get the wrong idea), on the 2nd day I worked. I would know what type of patients I had on the first day and if it would be safe to wear white the following day. Usually worked out for me. Just hated the thought of not wearing them at some point and time, since I already had them.;)

I learned a trick from a friend of mine. When we were in school together she had to wear an all white uniform (she was learning to be a cook, and i was learning to be a medical assistant) so she always wore black pantyhose underneath of her white pants, this way she wouldnt be showing off her leapord print underwear! I always just wear white granny panties with my white pants.

thanks for the advise...I have sometimes not bought things at stores because my undergarments would have been noticable

OK, in order to put on mascara without blinking, you

1. kick all the kids, dogs, and hubby out of the bathroom, and

2. relax your jaw.

Yes, it looks weird, putting your eyes on with your mouth hanging open, but it really works to relax your eye muscles as well.

Got that tip from a fashion mag many years ago and it's never failed me. ;)

Now that I think about it, I have done this forever without even thinking, and I've never have problems putting on mascara :) Too funny!

:yeahthat:

As I posted in another thread - white pantyhose under white pants avoid visible panty lines. I cover the pantyhose with a tennis sock and have modest appearal.

Two other options that I have found are: panty hose with no panties underneath or a beige thong.
