Which states have the "worst" nursing jobs?

  1. I have lived in Calif.,Wyoming,West Virginia and Washington. My worst job experience was in West Virginia. All nursing staff was treated like "dirt" from management at the LTC in Moundsville, West Virginia. How about you? What has been your experiences in different states? Which state/states did you find your "worst" nursing experiences? Thanks

Oklahoma had the worst pay. and NO union, so they tried to pull a lot of things there that would NOT fly here. Other than that, I can't speak. I have only been a nurse in two states. And in 5 years, things may have changed in OK since. But I doubt unionization is one of em!

Read my story entitled, " Down and Dirty in the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing" on this site by me, sleepless in norman. Good luck.

Iowa has to be the worst as far as pay, we rank 51 or 52 on the pay scale for nurses, out of 50 states. Iowa stinks for pay, but I guess in the same sense, our cost of living is much lower than many areas.

From everything I've read and heard, the SE and midwest both seem to have the worst conditions for nurses (except for their major metropolitan areas -- they usually offer higher pay and better conditions, due to greater competition). I used to live in NC, and my mom is currently a nurse there -- they can be very backwards at times.

Thanks everyone for your messages. After Mom goes to heaven I will probably move again. It looks like I need to stay out of Oklahoma,Iowa and the midwest areas. I have heard different opinions about North Carolina so I guess it has both good and bad.
