    Hi everyone,

I've been working nights for 15 years, and wouldn't think of changing. Worked 11p-7:30a 5 nights a week. Now I work 6p-6:30am 3 nights a week. It's great. I work in a small rural hospital with some great people. Everyone is always willing to help, including our nurse manager on nights. There's nothing she won't do. I agree with the other posts as far as the cohesiveness and the food. We always manage to have some fun along the way, too. I worked med/surg and now I work in CCU. I get more sleep now than I did when the kids were small.
I'm also an EMT for our Vol. Fire Dept. So sometimes I get woken up after 3-4 hours of sleep for a call, and it's hard to get back to sleep sometimes. Oh well. I'm definitely a night owl. It must be my payback for all the nights I stayed out partying when I was single. I even stay up late most nights when I'm home just to enjoy the quiet.

    Have a good one,

    Sue

Night shift is the best. More money, better team work, less hassles, better trauma pts in ER, entertaining patients, MUCH better pot lucks No surveyors an NO upper management I miss my night shifts Now that I'm one of those "management" people I'm on days. I can't say that I've totally adjusted. I usually go in at 5:30 - 6:00 am so I have a chance to see my night crew. They have less complaints then the day people

I'm flabbergasted at the number of people who prefer nights!!! I've been working night shifts since I'm graduated (9 years) and I'm now more than ready to move on to the day shift. There's just no employement in my field on day shift right now.
I feel I'm not as "up to date" as I should be because we don't do as much procedures and have less contact with references (doctors, family, paramedics) than on days. I do though like the time I have besides my work since I've no trouble sleeping. Anyone who has problem with sleep just CANNOT physically and mentally work on nights!!

Hope you find what's right for you!!!
