Nurses General Nursing

At some point in your life you decided to become a nurse. So, for you, which came first?
A love of nursing (with the wage secondary)
.....or ....
Did the pay catch your eye and then you 'grew into' the idea of it all?

It was about job security and money first and foremost.
Practicality wins.
Oh, if I had only known then what I know now....
But, I like my job alright.

It definitely came from the heart first for me. The love for caring for my grandmother while I was younger, I knew from then that is what I wanted to do.. and that also brought my love for working with the elderly.
I don't know about the money yet because I'm still looking for a job but I can imagine that would be a plus :)

Personally, I wanted something in the medical field but had no interest in nursing specifically. When I decided to get serious about school, Medical Lab Technologist was 100% what I wanted to do.
Then I realized after a two years of schooling I could be an MLT making $22 an hour or an RN making $29. Those are current starting wages at the hospital I work at now (and plan to continue working). Thats a difference of $1100 a month! With a family, every little bit helps so I decided to go for nursing instead.
I am completely in love with my career choice now, but it wasnt how I planned things five years ago!

I chose nursing because...I love nursing. I do ok, but work for the lowest paying hospital in the area b/c I believe they are the best.
