Take the poll....then tell us why? :)

L & D yuck, can't handle crotch watch. ewwwww.

In nursing school, when we did our Psych rotation, our assignment was to sit down and talk with anyone on the open unit that was not staff. I sat next to a fairly young, attractive young woman, and began talking. We talked for quite a while, and I found out that she was married, the mother of 2 children, and working on her Ph.D in Mathematics locally at the Institute of Technology in the same town. I am now quite baffled, thinking maybe I got a staff member by mistake, so I asked, "what are you doing here?" She calmly said, "I tried to kill my kids." I then asked her why, and she said, "it was right there in my ....book," and she named the book. I decided that I was ready to go home. I obviously could sit and talk that long to someone that disturbed, and never know the difference-scaarrry!

P.S. All of the bio stuff was true-I asked one of the nurses on the unit. Yes, I made SURE she was the nurse, and not another pt!:o

Specializes in NICU Level III.

LTC - too many patients! sounds depressing, too. also home health..that is just not my bag.

Specializes in ER, PACU, Med-Surg, Hospice, LTC.

Hated peds, hated OB/ L & D.

Specializes in Oncology, Triage, Tele, Med-Surg.

Peds is out for me. I love, love, love kids - but my heart aches so badly for the really sick ones that I'm just a mess thinking "this could be my child." Kudos to you that can muster the strength though.

I picked home health. I really don't like going into people's homes. Yuck.

Specializes in Pediatric/Adolescent, Med-Surg.

I picked med-surg. It's not really med-surg I hate as much as cardiac pts. I never really liked cardiac. I also hate not being able to communicate with my pts, so ICU or confused pts aren't my favorite. Meanwhile, I loved my psych clinical in school. Wouldn't mind working psych someday (I was on an inpatient eating disorder unit, it was fairly safe).

I work peds, I like my "under 21" pts.

Specializes in ER,ICU,L+D,OR.

Working anywhere, where I was not close to either a good golf course or a beach.

Even though I feel as if I have a knack for the psych patients that land on our cardiac floor, I absolutely hated my psych rotation and when I've been pulled to that unit.

Psych nurses are saints.

Specializes in ER, ICU, Corrections.

Well when I did my psych rotation in school the only thing that I hated worse was L&D. LOL. I was a med/surg nurse from the get go, but after a few years of doing that, I decided to try something different and I went to corrections and guess what the majority of our clients are......psych. I have seen some interesting things in my 20 years of corrections but at least now when I get a phone call that we have someone that is talking suicide or hearing voices or whatever I don't run the other direction. I still like a good old broken bone or chest pain but I will do psych if I have to.

I have only worked LTC once in my life and that was back when I took my CNA traing back in 197???????? I hated it then and I have been to a few now and again and I still wouldn't do it at all. I don't have the back or the shoulders anymore for that type of work.

I couldn't do L&D (had some bad experiences in school). Wouldn't mind OR and have worked ER...

BTW- there was no place to mark that you wouldn't work corrections.....I am hurt....LOLOL:chuckle:p:D

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I dislike infants, children, teenagers, and needy pregnant women. Therefore, I wouldn't work in L&D, postpartum, the NICU, PICU, pediatrics, teen clinics, or the well-baby nursery.

OR. I don't like it when I can't talk with patients and see them heal. I wouldn't want to work that close with surgeons either.

Ortho is a close second. Knees, hips, shoulders creep me out. I hate seeing people in so much pain. I am NOT looking forward my son's femoral osteotomy in 2 weeks.

I love, Love, LOVE cardiac.
