Yes, I know, we all want that! I'm a recent grad RN and am willing to move for the best job..ie, $, benefits, growth potential etc.. I would love to stay here in South FL but with this nursing shortage nothing has changed in working conditions and pay incentives. I've networked with a number of other RN's here and they all seem to agree! Florida has a long way to go to catch up to other states. Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated!

You might try checking out jobs on the east and west coasts. Kansas and Oklahoma start new RN's at $14.00 per hour, this includes those whom are starting in ICU ect. This pay is pretty average for this area.

The problem here in Florida is that we are a right to work state re: politicians suck up to the businesses and employees can just get a new job. However, as a nurse here in Florida I have to say I have worked for a union job before and there is no gray areas just black and white. I wish you luck in finding a good and satisfying job. If what you are looking for is $$, I suggest you look at salary info on the net, check www.salary.com, etc., also do searches on here and at nursingspectrum.com and you will find salary info. You have to consider though, where there is good money paid, there is usually a high cost of living. Good luck to you.

I would try California. I don't know about the union but I have heard their pay is very good although you do have to consider the cost of living. I can't believe anywhere has the nerve to pay $14.00/hr for a registered nurse that's awful. And call me naive but I had never heard of the "right to work" concept until recently. I was raised and work in the heart of the union movement (Flint, MI) and wouldn't work at a non-union facility! The "right to work" concept is unamerican but don't get me started my family gets so embarassed when I go into a tirade. Hope you have luck finding a great job and when you do let us know where it is maybe we'll join you.

I am a new grad (June 2000), and here in Washington State we are one of the richest areas in the country as far as nursing salaries. I started in Pediatric Med-Surg with a base rate of $17.76\hr, plus $2.25\hr for evening differential (night shift is $3.25\hr diff) and an additional $3.00\hr weekend differential. Working conditions are fair-good, and that's pretty equal in all the Seattle/Tacoma area hospitals (I've worked in most Tacoma area hospitals as an agency LPN for 3 years, and know many working RN/LPN's in the Seattle area through my Army Reserve Medical unit who agree). It's not as rainy here as everyone thinks, either!!!!!
