What's your opinion to this?

  1. Hi, I'm an EN student and I have been looking at Ethics as of late as part of my studies and I have to say that I really enjoy it, last week I was reading an article that really sent me into a whole new way of thinking.

    Here it is:

" Individual morality and cultural values influence the way we tackle ethical issues"

Would be interested to see where people stand on this, for me personally I have chosen to abandon a few values and re-invent them in order to accomodate the frailties that exist where I work so as I dont fall into the path of corruption.

Cheers and I hope to hear from you.

Elaborate more on "abandon a few values and re-invent them."

I'm in the Country ranked # 1 for corruption 5 years in a row. Almost everyone is involved and I see it daily on the streets, ie, policemen insisting on bribes to allow a rickshaw to go down a certain street. It goes all the way to the top. A lot of countries/organizations spend money on projects here but little makes it down to the person on the street. So, should countries just let their money circulate among the crooks or keep spending in hopes someone at the bottom benefits? Should we follow accepted procedure here? Should we buy all those cheap copies of DVDs knowing they are copies but that there are no originals to be had. Knowing that the shopkeeper will benefit may allow me to rationalize a purchase in this case but that's about it. Lot's of complexities involved in ethics.
