What's up with veteran nurses hating on new grads?

Nurses General Nursing

Several times in the past few weeks, I have heard rather disparaging remarks about new grads all over the hospital. Maybe some of you veteran nurses can shed a little light as to what the issue is? I work as hard as the next nurse, and my actions and gestures are discounted because I'm a new grad? The sad thing is I worked with these nurses as a tech and they were all so excited when I passed NCLEX and got my job. Do they not remember that they once were new nurses too?

You don't go to work to get unconditional love. That's what parents and spouses are for.

Unconditional love? Maybe if you are lucky, a good dog returns it

Or the right cat. I had two rescues that loved unconditionally. I also had a parakeet that sang back-up to Steve Miller Band's "Jungle Love." Goofy bird really liked that tune.

Some people make the mistake of thinking that your coworkers are your friends. You're there to do a job and that's it. Should you make a friend or two, great....but for the new grads complaining about senior nurses, realize that you won't like everyone, and they won't all like you. As long as you are able to get the job done and be civil, who cares? And it's often the newer nurses who only want days, no weekends, or who won't do this or that who complain. So many posts about this...
