I work at a psych hosp and this year the nurses got zippo-nothing!

Seems last year the nurses who worked there complained about what they got so this year administration decided to celebrate hospital week. I asked "what about nurses' week?" and was told that "nurses are part of the hosp and therefore the celebration of hosp week includes them too."

They had stupid games during the dayshift, but nothing for 3-11 or 11-7!

On Friday last week they had a "catered" lunch in the cafeteria from 1p-3p and you had to come in and pick up your paycheck. The food had been sitting out for over 1 1/2 hrs when I got there so I took NO FOOD! To receive any of the "door prizes" you had to be present, couldn't stay if you had to work! Then, of course, there's the fact that I got called off cuz there were too many RNs scheduled to work! So lost a day of pay after driving 45min to come to work, no $$, and had to drive 45min back home!

Totally sucked!

We had a big meeting downtown and they acknowledged Nurses Week verbally during the close of the meeting.
Then Wednesday we had Panera Bread bagel breakfast with flavored cream cheeses and soft drinks, milk, coffe and OJ.
Thursday we had a delivered pizza lunch.
Friday they had a special late afternoon meeting (which I missed) and got a certificate of appreciation and a rose.

I was unemployed when Nurses' Week arrived but was blessed with the position that I've been dreaming of for the longest, on Thursday of Nurses' Week. I would say it was a pretty good Nurses' Week for me.

Well, can't compain too much as I see others are in a worst position. Our hospital acknowleged 'hospital week'. We got a small nylon bag with the hospital logo, a calculator and a cupon for $3.00 off a cafeteria meal.

We had a lot of events like the choc fountain, cake and ice cream etc. They were from 11:00 to 14:00 so if you were busy that day it is really hard to get downstairs. We got new magnet shirts and gold pins. I didn't get to go to the choc fountain.

a t-shirt with the logo of course and a disposable (not even hard plastic) 32 oz cup with a gc for a free fountain drink at the hospital cafeteria that we have to walk 3 miles to.

gee thanks. we have free fountain drinks right on our very own unit, but hey. it's the thought that counts, right?

(oh, and on the back of the t-shirt? it is a recruitment shirt! advertising to BECOME AN RN AT so and so hospital) A new low, I'd say.

That sounds really lovely.

I have worked at my current hospital for 11 years, and in the past they have always celebrated the week as "Hospital Week" complete with 3 shifts of: free admin-served barbeque (burgers and hot dogs with the usual trimmings), 'ice cream cart' which goes to each area and serves up your choice of ice cream sundaes, 'door prizes' every day/shift, and some other little things. This year, each nursing department got a poster that said Happy Nurses Week. Even had a patient (who is a nurse elsewhere) ask what we got for Nurses Week. I pointed to the poster and said "That." She was a bit surprised. On the good side: A local pizza place always gives us coupons for a free personal-size pizza. However, the unit sec. from our ACU dept made home-made soup, cesear salad, and a yummy Bailey's cheesecake for ACU, OR, and PACU. VERY thoughtful!!

Guess what; we'll remember this slight while we're negotiating our contract (started the week before Nurses week)! Suppose they need to pay for all those consultants somehow!!
