Night shift seems to be the forgotten group. We, too, got a schedule with all the fun activities/foods planned for the day, but like others have said, who's going to drive in for a piece of cake or a "light" supper. Not me, anyway .

That outdoor movie thing sounds fun .

I am new ADON at my facility and this was my first Nurses Week with the nurses. It was exhausting but I arranged breakfast or lunch for each day for all three shifts. I made sure that the Nurses and CNA's had something to eat before others! I asked all doctors and they ALL gave gift certs that I could use as a give away for each shift. Our vendors we happy to in-service the Nurses and CNA's during lunch. I didn't want any one to feel left out. I have worked all shifts and I have not forgotten it. I also found that vendors that we were thinking of changing were happy to supply give aways and lunches. My goal for next year is at lease a $25 gift card for each nurse.

It was really funny when the OT/PT department asked me when was their week and why they didn't have a lunch. I replyed that they have a month (not a week)in April and Oct. I encouraged them to become passionate about what they do and start planning for Oct.

Default Memorable Nurses Week Gifts
Tomorrow, May 12th, is the last day of Nurses Week and the birthday of Florence Nightengale.

One of my coworkers (I work for a healthcare-related company) asked me what hospitals typically do for the nurses for Nurses Week. I explained that the hospital tallies up how many nurses it employes and looks at how much $ it has budgeted for the event. It then figures out how much it has to spend for each nurse and selects an item at or below that price point. It may also provide each unit with some food items, and the hospital's medical staff may also give the unit a gift.

What is the most memorable gift you've ever gotten during Nurses Week--be it fabulous or stupid, silly, cheap or cheesy?

HollyVK, RN, BSN, JD (and recipient of numerous pens, badge holders, calculators, fanny packs and lunch sacks with hospital logos)

This year the hospital changed the scrub dress code for nurses. Again. So all the nurses and nursing staff get scrubs. Nice.

I once got a coffee mug (with the company logo) filled with peppermints. I'm sure that one didn't break the budget!

Nothing at all this year - our hospital did not even acknowledge it in any way........

They do wonder frequently why moral is so low....

one year we received an "EMERGENCY MED. KIT" for our vehicles...all the aspirin, gauze bandages, etc. were WELL OVER A SIX MONTH'S PERIOD OF EXPIRED!!!!!

this year we got an emergency car kit - jumper cables and screwdrivers, stupid stuff.

oh, yes, and news that the 3.50 we receive for weekend only option will no longer be given (June 1st).... I am looking for a position else where.

Happy Happy Nurses' Week. By the way, we asked where our goodie basket was for night shift, weekends..... "we only treat the night shift from Monday to Thursday". I wonder how the administrators will feel being forced back to bedside on the weekendnights when we all leave??

I got a thermos this year-a really nice quality one too. In past years it was tote bags, drink bottles, penlights, and insulated lunch bags. If you don't mind the company logo, the gifts have all been put to good use.
