To all Recruiters and Fellow nurses..I need some advice

I am a student nurse in NYC i am graduating this June from a 2 yr college with a ASN in nursing. My problem is my visa expired and now i am out of status and i have no SS# and i wanted to know will i be able to take my state boards without a SS# and will i be able to be sponsered by a hospital even though my Visa has expired. please reply to this thread or email me at [email protected] your response would truly be helpful..Thank you Fellow nurses

First of all: What type of visa are you on? To change to a working visa, you will need sponsorship by a hospital or agency.

You can take your exams without a #SSN, as you don't get one until you are working or have reason to pay taxes.

Have you applied to take your NCLEX exams yet?

Your student visa has expired already? If it has, take care of that first, as if that is the case, it will be harder for you to get a work permit for the US. There was just something on the international news over here about that the other day. That is the most important thing. Because if it is expired, you are in the US illegally. Those are the rules.....................................

i am on a visitors viisa but it has expired already.....What do i put in the section of the appliciation that states ss# should i leave it blank?

Suggest you get an immigration lawyer a.s.a.p In the USA today illegal immigrants on not looked on too kindly. You could face immediate deportation.

First of all, don't even consider an application of any type for any exam, etc. until you get your visa straightened out. First of all, if you are in a nursing program, your school should have sponsored you for a student visa. According to the law, you are not even to be a student on a visitor visa. A visitor visa means just that, a visitor. You have jeopordized your chances of ever being able to work in the US. So before you worry about exams, get your visa fixed, if not, you will never be allowed to work in the US. At the moment, you are 100% Illegal. On any applications you have to list the type of visa that you are on and an actual copy of it. So don't even worry about the SSN right now. Your priorities are completely backwards.

Just thinking, a visitor visa is good for only 6 months, and you have been the US in school for 18 months, have you been illegal for that long? If you have been there for one year illegally, your chances of approval for getting a Visa Screen is almost nil.

What country are you from? Didn't anyone ever tell you this before? Does your school know that you are on an expired visa? Because they can actually get into trouble for that. One of their responsibilites is to make sure that their foreign students comply with visa requirements. Did you tell them that you were on a visitor visa when you started?

Sorry if this sounds rough, but you have done some very stupid things. Now, you need to fix it and only a very good immigration lawyer may have a chance with it. And you are talking in the neighborhood of about $10,000 to attempt to straighten this out, and there are no guarantees. Remember, only the US government grants visas, not law offices. It is up to the government.

heyy suzannne...the situation gets more complicated...5 months ago Imarried a US Citizen and he filed for me...but the marriage is not working out....can i still be sponsered if we are still married when i pass my Nclex which i will be taking in July?

I think you really need to seriously consider Gomer's advice and get an immigration Lawyer.

okay, I have a lot of expereince in the visa relm.

First, if it hasn;t been that long since you overstayud, walk yourself down to INS and take care of it pronto- you do not want to be out of status a long time.

YOu may have to go back to your country and come back.

If you have stayed a long time, or there are other issues, cough up the money and get a lawyer. yes, they are expensive, but the laws are very complicated.

My husband and I would ahve saved ourselves an infinite amount of heartache if we had just dealt with our immigraton more seriously.

again, suzanne4 is right about getting an immigration lawyer, but it didn't cost us 10,000 dollars, and our case was pretty complicated. You may be looking at 2-3,000. or more, it depends.

One thing you should know is that some students have a special exeption from the overstay limit, but hte only person who will tell you that is a lawyer.
