What should I wear when shadowing a nurse?

  1. Hi,
I'm shadowing a nurse in the morning for a couple of hours. It's on a unit where I've already been offered the job, but I asked if I could shadow first before I make a decision. It's not a hospital affiliated with my school (if it was, then I would just wear my school uniform). What would the appropriate dress be? Should I wear scrubs, nice slacks and shirt, etc.?? Thanks, :-)

scrubs, your uniform (is it all white?) you wouldn't want to be in street clothes....so scrub type clothes is my vote

    I'd vote for scrubs/school uniform

Since you're not officially representing your school in any capacity, I would recommend nice-looking scrubs.

A white polo and scrub bottoms.

I did 6 weeks of it, and we were not to wear school uniforms.

If you are familiar with the unit, wear scrubs. I say this because if you are wearing scrubs you will have people coming up to you constantly to ask you for help with this, that, and the other. If you are not familiar with the unit and it's practices, I would wear comfortable business casual (khakis and a polo, for example).

I would ask the unit manager or whoever you are coordinating with to ask what their policy is

    Hi,
Thanks everyone. I just wore some plain blue scrubs I had. Luckily no one walked up to me and asked me questions about a patient. :-)
