What kind of certification hospital pays?

  1. hi there,

i know that certifications like, ONC, CCRN, etc... are paid by the hospital when you are accepted but what about ACLS or PALS, do you think they will pay for it?

    thanks!

Our hospital does not pay for any certifications nor do the pay higher rate for obtaining them. They pay for the ACLS and PALS classes but not for our time spent in them, just the class fee...IF taken at this hospital.

Depends on your hospital and, more importantly, whether the certs are required for your position. For example, since I work in the ER and BLS, ACLS, PALS (or ENPC), and TNCC are all required, the hospital pays for the class and the time required to take them. My director also reimbursed the fees for my CEN and CCRN, but unfortunately I don't get paid any more for having them. On the other, though, if I want to take NRP or STABLE, the ER won't pay for them since they are not technically required for the position.

Every facility has its own way of dealing with certifications. One boss paid me a buck an hour more for my CCRN. My current boss gives me zip. They pay for my time and the fees for CPR and ACLS as it is required to do my job. Some facilities will reimburse for the CEU $$$ to keep my CCRN current. (1OO hours of education adds up) My current facility will not reimburse for CEU's only college courses. So...they're all different.

So if I am required to take ACLS and PALS for my job should we get reimbursed for the time (usually totals 14 hours)? We were told not to clock in for these classes.

My hospital pays for CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator), PALS, ACLS, and most other certifications. My part time job even pays for me to get my nursing license!

Not all hospitals pay vor ONC, CCRN. If your hospital pays for them that is great. Rather than have a guessing game about this why don't you ask your hospital?
