What I Love About Nursing Is....

Helping people! I get so much satisfaction out of a kind word, "Thank You!", hug or handshake when I've made a positive impact on another human being! Seeing a patient smile or laugh is very meaningful to me! There is no better feeling than that! Listening to a patient open his/her heart about his/her life and be able to shed a tear while I listen, hold them or just put my hand on their shoulder with a soft touch to let them know that someone cares!...Because, that's how I would want my family, friends or myself treated, at a vulnerable time. Nursing is about the emotional response, not just the physical or intellectual aspects (although I love the "technical" part of nursing, too; cause it is fascinating!)
It is so nice seeing the patients who recover and who are able to go back to the"normal" lives...That is very gratifying!....Or, even, the patients who die....Just being there and giving support to the family, friends or significant others....That's what it's all about....That basic human elements of compassion and selflessness!...That is why I became a NURSE...To help others in their time of need (because as an LVN, it certainly isn't because of the little money that I make). Some people may think I am unrealistic or "corney", but I am Christian and I believe in the "Golden Rule" and because of the words of St. Francis of Assisi:
Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Knowing that I have made a difference.
Unfortunately, in this day and age, it seems that we are fighting beaurocracy in order to treat our patients as people and not some annoyance that has to be shipped out as fast as possible.

Being part of bringing a new life into the world

Opportunity
Being there for parents when things go horribly wrong, being able to comfort them, cry with them, and to provide the most respectful, compassionate care that I can, and preventing a horrible situation from being even worse.

Being a part of a field that is ever evolving

I became a nurse because I love helping people! I love helping patients, and I love making a difference. Their are so many bad things in this world, and I love being able to lessen the bad. Making someone smile when they are ill, feels my heart hope. Many people are coming into nursing because it is a guaranteed job and because of the money. While those are added perks, I came into nursing because it is my calling. I believe God put me on in this earth to be a caregiver, an advocate, an educator, and an example. Everyday is something new in nursing, every patient is different! I love learning from the patients; I dont just teach them, I am taught everyday!

sirI you said you like to educate people if they consider nursing a career. I am; and Im kinda scared of being at work 24-7 is it really work all day and night? Or, is that just a sterotype? Im young and Im not quiet to college but i will be in two years and I want to know what i want to do now. Please help anyone, thank you.

Nursing is an exciting profession.. A nurse works where people, live, or play. Holistic care...

Entering into nursing school was one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's definitley hard work and takes alot up alot of my time, but I love it. I'm always learning new things on the clinical floor which is very exciting. It's always a challenge, which is a good thing, and after completing a new task it feels very rewarding. It's also I love going to clinical and helping people feel better, even if it's just talking to them for a few minutes, because sometimes other nurses don't have the time. I'm very pleased with my choice on becoming a nurse.

Always having that feeling of accomplishment when the day is done!
Not 1 day has went by in my 18 yrs of nursing that I didnt take home that feeling, the day it happens i probably will leave nursing!

I work in a prison so every day is different from the next, Life in a prison nursing Job is challenging, its like running a mass unit, with more medical supplies! Keeps my heart rate pounding when a code comes out!

I don't think i have found anything that i didnt like about nursing!
