What Freaks You Out?

Nurses General Nursing

Okay, people. It's time for a nice, fun, light-hearted discussion to blow off some steam.

WHAT FREAKS YOU OUT? What bodily fluid can't you STAND? What wound gives you the absolute WILLIES? It doesn't matter if you're an ADN, BSN, LPN, CNA, PQRST, ABCDEFG...every body gets the heebie jeebies over SOMETHING...even you stomach-of-steel ER nurses!

Mine is eyeball injuries/surgery...aaaaaaaaackkkkkkk!! Gross! Makes my skin absolutely CRAWL. Or when someone gets a little cut on their finger/toe/whatever and then squeezes it to make it bleed!! Bleah!! Then there's the ever-popular RESPIRATORY SECRETIONS. I can handle poop, pee, amniotic fluid, lanced boils, pus, whatever...but give me a nasty snot-filled trach, and I'm OUTTA THERE.

Share, share, share people! biggrin.gif

midgets dressed as clowns. that really freaks me out

Clowns dressed as midgets is much, much worse. Trust me.

Honestly though...LICE and bed bugs! Ick, ick, ick! Maggots? No problemo. Leeches? Bring 'em on. But lice and bedbugs? Barf! I will clean up poop all day and night, even GIB or C-Diff. I'll suction a trach rank with pseudomonas. But keep those creepy crawlies far from me!

I'm in my second semester of nursing school so I haven't seen too much yet like most of you have. I pretty much have an iron stomach, so I don't worry much about heaving. Passing out is more my thing. I went in to watch a woman get an epidural and made it through the procedure but had to make a quick exit before I hit the floor. I started getting really really hot, then my vision started getting splotchy. I had to sit on the floor right outside the door. The other student that went in with me said she could actually feel the heat radiating from my body...lol So, needles in the spine...NOT my thing!!

Make sure you have a snack before clinical - it will help tremendously with the woozies...

Dry skin flakes. As in when you pull off a patient's socks and it suddenly looks like it's snowing skin...yuck!! It always makese hold my breath because I don't want to breathe them in!

Ileostomies (the consistency), sebaceous cysts (the big nasty ones...what even are they?!), and nasty smelling diabetic foot ulcers. All hard no's for me.

Hair, hair keep your hair off me. Hair is dirty and nasty and especially curly ones. I can totally overlook poo and urine and mucous but if a stray hair is on me I want to shower twice!! LOL!!

I have seen this before, looks like a hot dog that exploded in the microwave.

I once had a trach lugie hit my face. Ack!! I also cannot stand eye trauma and that stinking rotten smell of pseudomonas.

Say "pediculosis capitis".

Don't say "head lice".
