What freaks you out?

Ok, the thing that gave me the willies, was when I was in nursing school I had a patient who had a FESS (sinus surg) and the dr came in and took his stents out. If youv'e ever seen that done its yuckkkk, blood was everywhere. But that wasn't the bad part, I had to irrigate his sinuses and teach him how to do it. It intailed using a bulb syring and squirting it in his nares ( how bad could that be? ) Haaaaaaa, thats what I was thinking untill blood clots came streaming out of his mouth!!!!!!!! GRRRROOOOssssssss, It was all I could do not to gag and I can't imagine how that must feel to the patients who have that done. I work in a hosp. now where we, thank the lord, don't do sinus surg! Another time on of the other students was discharging a pt when she bent down to help him tie his shoes and he threw up on her hair. Teee Heee! Well he didn't get to go home that day and she took a shower at the hospital!

To help with all these smells, rub Vicks-Vapor Rub under your nose before entering a patients room. You can't smell anything!!

okay -- beginning to rethink nursing school. I heaved after reading about four of these posts, and I am only on the sixth page now...yikes.

All the vaginal stuff is freaking me out, the dog - woo, well that had me on my knees...

I want to stop reading ---- but i cant!! LOL

i used to have this patient that couldn't resist eating her feces habitually. her mouth would be smeared, her hands/nails encrusted and one time i went in her bedside draw to find dried stools wrapped in tissues (midnight snack?)

For me it's respiratory secretions. I don't know why. Blood, poop, decubitii - these don't cause me to blink an eye, but the resp. secretions ... BLECH! I have to look away as much as possible because otherwise I'll be gagging.

ear wax..............make me gag a little even thinking about it....

The chicken feathers thing & the dog eating the sputum from the can made me want to vomit up stuff other people ate. Pam

Suctioning out a trach doesnt bother me, I guess having to do it for my 3 year old daughter for 2 years before she passed away at the age of 5 made me look at it from a different perspective.

Maggots and cockroaches ewwww, I hate bugs anyway, OMG the dog drinking the spit can UGH.

Watching my kids vomit gets me gagging, I dont know how I am going to tolerate an adult doing it.

Oh the joys I get to look forward to, can I survive this?
