What do you do on the drive to work?

So I drive 200 miles to work one way. For me that's 3.5 hours that I feel I should be productive with.

My solution: learning Spanish with CD's that I put in my car.

However there's only so much Spanish I can try and learn at one point before I need a break. :p

Anyone have any suggestions?

For those that drive a distance, what do you do during your drive?

I usually get really bad road rage. But then again, it is probably just venting from the day, because I have noticed it is worse during the drive home.

P.S. I don't usually act out, though I am guilty of using my horn as a weapon of mass INSTRUCTION!!!!!LOL

How does the plug-in essential works in the car? i haven't tried it plugging it in the lighter outlet..

i wonder...can't go outside now it's 10 pm here.

It's not the regular Essentials that you plug into the wall outlet, it's an organic oil burner. I can't use those artificial ones as the perfumes give me a headache. I only use natural oils. It plugs in and has a metal plate inside that warms up and a disposable cardboard insert inside that you sprinkle the oils on. I bought it in Whole Foods.

My drive to work is a nice way to start the day, it's relaxing, and gives me a good half hour to listen/sing to music before the day gets busy! Same thing on the way home, reflect on my day and how much I've learned and what I need to work on (new nurse lol). And, obviously, pay attention to the road. You have a long drive! I hope you don't work 12 hour shifts....there is no way I could stay awake that long on the drive home! Will you be able to relocate closer to work at some point?

Yeah. . . after my third I drive straight home. It's a challenge sometimes but I found that Mountain Dew is the Narcan to my soul. ;)

I don't know about relocating. The town that I work in doesn't have a lot to do. I've been told there's bowling, and a bar. But I guess that's all you need in life! :lol2:

I have worked in this town about 30 miles from my home for 15 out of the last 16 years, at a Mental Health Clinic and now at a Medical Center. There was only one highway to this town, until a new super highway made its way to an area about 5 miles from my home.

When construction on the old highway and a slow moving train caused a little delay on my way to work one night, I decided to try the new highway. Now, get this: The new way is 6 miles more compared to the old way. However, traveling time both ways is 45 minutes. There are about 30 stoplights between my home and work the old way. There are only about a half a dozen the new way.

To answer the poised question of what I do on the drive to work, I say: I listen to Bach's Brandenburg Concertos or Concerto for Violins, get lost in my thoughts considering time and space, and pat myself on the back as if I were Christopher Columbus. Even though I am aware of the fact that The Vikings discovered this New World before I did!

I listen to Blue Collar Comedy on XM Radio. Nothing puts me in a better mood...well, except when Bulls on Parade comes on the radio while I am channel surfing.

I put on loud music (whatever I'm in the mood for) and sing loudly....I went from having a 25 minute drive to a 10 minute drive. I love music! So if you see a girl in scrubs singing loudly and dancing around in her car that might be me! :rckn::rckn:

I drive a bit under an hour each way and most days I listen to Dave Ramsey. Helps to keep me motivated financially!

Oh gosh no.

I go up, do my three, stay in a hotel, and come down.

I would die driving 7 hours a day!

Out of curiosity, does the hotel give you a discount? We are in an area where working elsewhere might be worth my time, but I wasn't sure how the hotel thing works.

Crank up the classic rock station on the way in, NPR or a local station that has a great preacher on the way home.
