What do you think?

What's your take on wearing your uniform while you are attending to personal business outside of work...say to Wal-Mart, the local steakhouse, whatever? I think it's gross to trek around in your uniform to the store after you've been taking care of sick patients because of all the nasty things you might have been exposed to on the job. I see a lot of that here. Maybe they think they look cute or something. We were out to dinner at the Olive Garden and right across from us sat a nurse in what looked to be a blood-stained scrub uniform! UGH:rolleyes: I know convenience is probably the biggest reason that I see so much of this. It's just icky!

I won't even fill up my gas tank in my scrubs.

I just don't feel comfy in my whites anyplace but work.

I wear my scrubs all the time to stores and such and never thought anyone thought anything of it until today. The original post asked about seeing scrubs on people in various public places and only mentioned the one incident of seeing a soiled scrub. I took the post more on a gereralization of anyone wearing scrubs outside of the workplace as being yucky and gross. I just wanted to point out that not all nurses wearing scrubs in public have icky germs plastered all over thier front side. ;) [/b]

In my original post I was just telling about an experience that I had while dining out with my husband on our second night back stateside and the woman sitting directly in front of our table was wearing a clearly soiled unform. My impression of that wasn't a good one. Since I have been back for several months now, I have seen many health workers shopping and dining while in their work uniforms.

I was wondering what other health professionals thought of this. Infection control comes to my mind when I say that in my personal opinion that it is "icky" (my exact word) and it's gross if the uniform is dirty. I don't mean to say that YOU as a person are icky or gross. :kiss Another kind poster has already set me straight by telling me what I can not see is as gross as what I can. (No argument there!:D I can not see MRSA with my eyeballs. ) I thank you for pointing out that "not all nurses wearing scrubs in public have icky germs plastered all over their front side". I will keep that in mind when I encounter the masses in uniform at Walmart. :uhoh3:

I'm with you Russell...I would stop for gas I guess if I HAD to though!:D Maybe the gas fumes kill the germs that I would leave behind:chuckle
