Volunteer wanting to show some love

Nurses General Nursing

I am a college sr. who is going into nursing after I finish my anthropology degree. I have been working as a volunteer in the ER @ the hospital in our town and the nurses have been SO supportive, informative, shown me TONS, and been all around great to me. I want to show them some thanks as the semester comes to a close. Should I send flowers, bring cookies, treat everyone to starbucks, what would u guys want? Thanx!

If you will be asking for a formal recommendation for your nursing school application, I would not bring any gifts. That could be seen as inappropriate. Otherwise, if you are never going to ask for a written recommendation from them - go for it. I think some sort of yummy treat would be great, and better than flowers or Starbucks.

I don't think giving a group "thankyou" precludes asking an individual for a reference. It's not like a muffin is going to sway them!

ER nurses love snacks, cookies, donuts, brownies etc. Just make sure that it is something that is easy to eat on the run as they go about their job. Please take those hardworking nurses that were nice to you something. And don't worry about it being innapropriate. ER nurses don't get much in the way of thanks and we really appreciate it. If you need a reference perhaps you have established a good relationship with one or two of the nurses and can approach them for one. Or the department head may give you one and that will happen, or not happen, regardless of whether you plyed some ER nurses with brownies. It is always worthwhile to show appreciation and thanks for kindness.

We love thank you, we love thank you accompanied by food even more.

I personally do not feel that some treats are inappropriate just because you would like a recommendation.

Good luck to you
